Mulqueeny Clan

Journal by Cecily

I am researching the Mulqueeny family who originated in County Clare. They emigrated to Australia and settled mainly in the Tumut, Morpeth and Newtown areas in New South Wales. On making enquiries in County Clare, I was informed that the name had ancient origins, but the clan had virtually disappeared owing to mass migration.

My particular research is about Thomas Mulqueeny who settled in Newtown NSW as a single migrant. Within two years he had a horse bus and was the purchaser of a house in Denison Street Newtown. H expanded his business to include more small houses for rent, and a second bus which took passengers from Newtown to various parts of the developing city.

He married Bridget Howard who from the same county. He had three children, one of whom was my grandmother Annie, who married Joseph Lannen in Newtown in 1899.

I have also discovered that he had a family connection to the Mulqueenys of Morpeth

I only discovered today that Ellen, daughter of Thomas and Bridget, married Denis William Mulqueeny from Morpeth. I am interested in the Howard part of this family.
