thankyou so much as i have come across a geo in the family tree but he was married to their daughter Sybil estelle Ah Poo. His name was geo young as far as i can figure, but there was a george somewhere but i dont remember where, i did think at that time that his name was george and had been abreviated
I have the name of Ah Kum and Ah Sin which i think were edward William Ah Poo's grandparents, do you know anything about them
Thanks for bringing those references to light, Gerry.
'George' Ah Poo (aka Harper) was my great-great-grandfather; he came out from Canton before 1862, when he was registered in Tambaroora (Hill End). He failed to find gold, eventually taking work as a farm labourer in the Shoalhaven district - where he married Emma Ann Lowe in 1876.
The family moved to Parramatta in the mid-1880s, where Ah Poo and his eldest son Herbert William ('Bertie') worked as market gardeners on land at Darling Mills (near the Bunnings store in North Parramatta), on the way to Castle Hill.
If you can get to Parramatta before March 11, 2012, we have an exhibition at the Parramatta Heritage Centre in Church St (opposite the Riverside Theatre).
