Journal by bobbyjoec

My name is Bobby Cartwright and I am from Bluefield, WV. My GGGG grandfather is Thomas P. Cartwright and he was married to Barbara Everman and Frances Murphy. Thomas and Barbara's children were Elijah, Moses, James, and Polly. Moses, who was my GGG grandfather, was born between 1814 and 1817. He married Clarissa Murphy in Indiana in or about 1830-1835. They moved and settled back in McDowell County WV, then it was Tazewell County, VA in 1830-1835. They were the first settlers in the present county of McDowell. They had eight children: Margaretta Jane, Barbara, William (who was a confederate soldier who is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in either Indiana or Illinois), Sarah, Frankie, Lettie, Henry, and Thomas E.. Thomas E. is my GG grandfather and married Minerva Morgan and they had 15 children. One of those children Thomas E. Jr. was my G grandfather who married Lou Emma Browning whom had several children and one was Fred Sr. who is my grandfather who married Edna Barnett whom had 10 children and my father Aubrey Cartwright passed away on October 7, 2005.

Bobby

Thomas Edward Cartwright was my ggrandfather through his daughter Minnie Maryland Cartwright Elliott. Thomas's wife was Lou Emma Browning. Thomas Edward's Father was
Thomas Andrew Cartwright who served as a Lieutenant in the 45th VA Infantry CSA.
William Cartwright his brother served in the same regiment. He was captured at the battle of Piedmont and sent to Camp Morton, Indianapolis, IN in Feb 1865 and was originally buried in Evergreen Cemetery the Confederate Graves were moved to Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. A monument to the soldier that died at Camp Morton is in Garfield Park in Indianapolis.

Minerva Morgan died in a flash flood. Old family story.

According to another researcher Clarissa Murphy was the younger sister of Thomas P
Cartwright's second wife who was from Pike County Kentucky.

I have quite a number of Cartwright photos. I met Thomas Edward, Lou Emma and Uncle Fred when I was a child.

Not sure yet how to contact you directly but will figure out a way. Do not post your email on a open site.
