My grandparents, Johannes C. BURCHARDI and Karen Margrethe JOHANNESEN, immigrated from Denmark in 1891 and 1893, respectively. They finally settled in Solvang, CA when that town was established in 1911.

I am researching both the BURCHARDI and JOHANNESEN families. The JOHANNESENS were from Sonder Nissum in Denmark. Johannes' parents, Adolph and Anna BURCHARDI were from Schleswig-Holstein and so were originally German. They settled in Denmark in the 1860s and were dairy farmers. Thanks to my great grandfather, Adolph BURCHARDI, we have a narration about his family and their 12 children. Unfortunately it is in Danish, and I can't read it.

I've had a few pages translated, but it is such an imposition to ask someone to translate more that I haven't tried. I have Danish cousins who are helping, but they don't have too much extra time for such time consuming work.

I already feel like I know my family so much more from my genealogy research. All of my grandparents were either dead or very elderly when I was born, so I never knew them directly.
