I am not sure if you can help me I am in search of information relating to a Elsie May Coffey (nee Crouch), her father was John Baird Crouch who married Elizabeth Hughes. Elsie is my great grandmother and the information we have on her is from after she married my great grandfather Patrick Joseph Coffey in 1915 in Glenelg South Australia. Having searched all the Australian birth records I can find no children recorded for John Baird CROUCHER and Catherine Elizabeth HUGHES. It's possible John and Catherine left Australia after they were married in 1886 and had children in another country. Being unable to locate John and Catherine's deaths in Australia makes me think this may be the case, but I could be wrong.

Going by Elsie's given age at marriage and death she was born circa 1888.
This may assist others with a birth search for Elsie.

Catherine Elizabeth (nee BRITTON, formerly HUCHES) married John Baird CROUCH Fitzroy, Victoria on 30 September 1886
Apparently they did not have children of their but they did raise a family of adopted children

Due to a lack of official records and a fire that destroyed the records of the Kennerley Boys' Home in Hobart (from where some of the boys were adopted aged between 5 & 7), no documentary evidence has been found for the adoptions:

- these are the only children found at this time (and all taken from the very informative site linked here) but does not include your Elsie May (which doesn't mean she wasn't a daughter, just that I haven't found her as being known as one of their children)

1897 - 1935 Ralph Whitticomb Crouch (drowned with his son in Hobart)

* the family appear to have broken apart, several of the siblings were never in contact with one another again.

* Catherine Elizabeth died in 1914 (shortly after three of her sons went to war) and perhaps it was this that led to the break up of the siblings and the alienation between the family

* After Ruby married she never spoke to the family again

* on 11 March 1918, John Baird Crouch married again, to a widow of German descent, Louisa Augusta Schmidt
