early Attayate folk

Journal by karenrae

I am looking for some way to find out who these people were. I mean where they came from. These people were in Berkshire in the 1300s, but, were they Normans, were they older than that? And how did they become Barons and Lords? I know they were apparently very devout Catholics. At least one of them was in Reading Jail as a recusant. Lyford Grange, where they lived a good part of the time, some say was the last nunnery in England. One of the Yate wives was said to have been with that group. George Yate b. 1640, was my ancestor who came to Maryland to become the Assistant Surveyor of Maryland. The Yates in my line eventually migrated to Virginia, then Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and onward.

Karenrae,

I am also related to a George Yate(s)of Maryland/VA area in that time
period. I am new to this research group but I may be able to help others searching for Yates located in Washington DC and the VA area
from early Colonial times right up to the 1900's and the present.
I am also looking for Stephens and LaPrade surname history in the same area and time period. When I traced the Yates name I found
records for Yate and then eventually a John Attaya in 1340 in England.

William Attayate born 1315 was my wife's 20th great grandfather. I live in the UK. The same family, (Attayate) branch off and have direct lines into the Spencer and Churchill families, and can trace a direct line to Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales, deceased and Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. My wife's ancestors are from a less well known line.

I am looking for information upon William Attayate's wife and his blood line pre 1315 but find it very difficult even whilst living in the UK.

I am researching for my husband and would like more information as to the attaYate status as Barons and Lords and how that came about. Also curious about connection to Churchill and Spencer
