hi Rick, best to use some names so that others know who this great grandfather was. Hope someone else reading this will be able to help you further:

his name was Walter Christian STEERS. He was born 6 January 1887 to:
Robert STEERS (1845-1922) & Johanna Marie SCHIERNING (from Napier)
Robert was from Denmark & arrived in NZ about 1870 aged 25
- Robert & Johanne married 28 Nov 1885 at St Pauls Presbyterian Church, Napier & Walter seems to be the only child. Have not found what happened to Johanna at this time but Robert died 1 July 1922 aged 77. He had been living at Delta Street, Roslyn, Dunedin . He is buried in Plot 7, Block 6 at Green Island Cemetery along with 24 year old Elizabeth Steers (1858-1882) and 29 year old Elizabeth Taylor (1881-1911)

Walter Christian Steers died 22 March 1921 in Bluff aged 34
- he apparently self-poisoned and is buried in Block 0 at Green Island Cemetery, Dunedin with 116 others !!

Thanks for your prompt reply, it gives me a starting point for my friend Peter Steers (aged 68 yrs old) living in Dunedin all his life.
So I will pass these details on, hopefully he can get more info on his family.
If I find out any new details I will pass it on to you, thanks again, Rick.

the Elizabeth Steers that Robert is buried with was his first wife Elizabeth TAYLOR whom he married 13 April 1881 in Green Island, Dunedin. She died 17 months later, on 12 Sep 1882

the Elizabeth Taylor that they are buried with is intriguing (now that we know that Robert's first wife was also Elizabeth Taylor). This Elizabeth is aged 29 on the cemetery database and 28 on BDM (died in Jan so yet to have a birthay) which means she was born either 1881 OR 1882 ??. It would be easy to assume that if it was 1881 she was possibly a base born daughter of Elizabeth before her marriage to Robert. OR she may have been married ???
Hope someone will help - or a great deal of research will need to be done :)

She was born 10th July 1863 in Hillerod, Frederiksborg, Denmark.
