George Franklin McSwains Father

Query by judym

All of the research shows George Franklin, Born 1869 TN to be the son of
John Franklin and Mary G. McSwain. Both born in NC.
And, that they go back to David McSwain, from Scotland approx 1732.

The problem; our family papers show Our ancestory to be from Ireland, arriving in America 1636.
So, therefore, I am not sure that John and Mary are the correct parents.
I am trying to trace it back, OR forward, but hitting brick walls, or things not adding up
both directions.
Any information on George Franklin McSwain prior to 1900,
and any information on McSwains in America from 1600 thru 1740
Would BE GREATLY appreciated.

Hi- You could be a cousin! My Grandmother was Ruby McSwain and from the Cleveland county NC McSwains. My Dad has done her tree and we have definitive proof they came from the Isle of Skye in the Hebrides around mid 1700's I think. Yet Ancestry .com wants to say, (as well as many other sites), that McSwains were Irish. I think it comes from a Misnomer that MAC is Scottish and MC is Irish- apparently NOT TRUE. Still, I cannot find a clan Tartan or other info, only confirmation that the McSwains were in Scotland at least by the 1600s if not earlier. It could be that the names were changed from MacSweyn or Mac Suibhne still looking into it.
