Hello..I am one of the great granddaughters of David and Isabella Gilbertson, have been researching the family history on and off for a while. Hoping I can get some of the puzzle together this winter.
Interestingly I have just met 3 cousins who descend from Abel Tasman Gilbertson..June was a Luff. We are meeting up to share info soon. My grandfather was Alexander the youngest son of David.
Wehave the old Gilbertson family bible with all the birth entries etc and lots of newspaper cutting saved by my family. Also a photo from the oild painting of Bonnie Las one of David boats he built.
Would love any other info from descendants of other brothers of Davids!

We have been researching this family too, David was my Gt Gt Gt grandfather. My line comes through David's eldest son Joseph then his son George Donald and my father was Clifford Hector.
The info we have is that Abel Tasman married an Elizabeth Leiff in 1892. His gravestone (of which I have a photo) clearly states Elizabeth as his wife.
Cheers
Mike

Hi cliffy1947, only just seen your response. Looks like you are at the other end of the heap being descended from the oldest son. I am descended from Davids youngest, Alexander. Do you have any information in hardcopy such as photos newspaper clipping or stories from your line? I would love to compile anything available together in a 'story' to be able to pass on to others. I think Joseph was a builder, right? Responsible for a few projects around Nelson. Although Davids brother Joseph also did the same I think. Where do you live? We are in Motueka so have been running around with cousin June in the cemetarys and buildings etc trying to piece together the puzzle.

My apologies I have only just found your message. We are at present in Thurso, Scotland doing some further family history research. I am more than happy to share any information I have. Please contact me on my email address mikeandruthg@gmail.com as I check that regularly.
Cheers Mike
