Louis & Mary had married in Tasmania Australia in 1852, then later sailed to New Zealand on the ship of his brother, Captain Isadore 'Jean' L'Anglois, the "COMTE de PARIS". Captain Jean L'Anglois was in Banks Peninsula in 1838 when Captain CECILLE of the "Heroine" hoisted the French flag. He returned in 1840 bringing out the first 62 French colonists to Akaroa. He also endeavoured to 'buy' millions of acres of the South Island (for the French Company) which comprised nearly all the land from sea to sea, that of Canterbury, all Westland and parts of Nelson and Marlborough. The deed was signed by a few Maori at Pigeon Bay August 12 1840 which was a few months AFTER the proclamation of the Queen's Sovereignty (this was well known by Jean). Much has been written about L'Anglois's attempt to 'delude the Maori and deceive the English Government', the following is a good read:
Attempted French Settlement

* Louis & Mary moved to Waikouaiti, East Otago, for a time
* A charming story of Louis Langlois in 1880 (back in Canterbury and then aged 60), where he was known as the 'Bee Master"
