In the 1880s a Cobb & Co. Royal Mail Service ran from Masterton in the Wairarapa to Woodville in the Manawatu, stopping at Hastwell's stables along the way and passing through Eketahuna.
A JOB VILE went into competition with them and offered a similar service, undercutting Cobb & Co's price, from 1 pound down to 15 shillings
