Click here to purchase their Marriage Certificate securely online NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages - $26.00.

Registration No. 9940/1907 Groom's name: STEVENS, ARTHUR E Bride's name: HART, SARAH J District: BALLINA.

His parents names were possibly Edward Place (or Peace) STEVENS and Susannah Rebecca EVVY or EZZY who were married in 1876 at Wellingrove NSW. There is a birth record for an Arthur E. STEVENS in 1886 at Glen Innes. You won't know it's the same family until you purchase certs.

If it is the same family, there were other children:

(Births)
*Emily Place STEVENS born 1880 Wellingrove NSW
Mary Eliza STEVENS born 1882 Glen Innes NSW
...Arthur E. STEVENS born 1886 Glen Innes NSW...
Louisa V. STEVENS born 1889 Glen Innes NSW
(Deaths)
Frank C. STEVENS died 1878 Inverell NSW
*Emily Place STEVENS died 1950 North Sydney NSW

Tip: With a common and popular surname like 'STEVENS' it is advisable to be careful not to research the wrong STEVENS family. Make sure you obtain as many bdm certs as you can. Ask/check with family members first before splashing the cash.

Please be aware that there are a couple of Stevens families around this area who are not related. I have researched the Stevens/Shufflebottom line and have not found an Arthur Edward or the parents listed above. The Stevens mob buried at Pally are almost all my line.

hi there jamboree i am finding it very hard to know if i am on the right track past relatives of the stevens clan say we are of the stevens/shufflebottom line i really would love to know where we fit in regards yvonne haley.

by jamboree on 2008-11-01 20:32:38

Hi Yvonne

My mother was born at Biniguy and grew up there - her mother was a Stevens. I don't have an Arthur E in my line at all (that's not to say that he doesn't fit in). do you know who your grandparents were and I will see if there is a connection. If you have lived in Pally for 40 years then you would have known Pat Stevens. He did do some work on the family tree with some others but the information was inaccurate in many places. If you were related to Pat, then you are related to me as Pat was the brother of my grandmother Gertie.
Regards
Jan

hi jan all i was ever told when i was comming to pally was that my fathers first cousins lived out here they were lizzy austin /nee stevens and fred stevens her brother and alec stevens and yes i knew pat stevens well he nearly reared my husband graham haley graham was always over there he used to take him to all the auction sales another relation was kath macey she told me her father william stevens was a cousin of pops i think pops parents were edward stevens and susane ezzy not sure on that i am in the midddle of finding that out i will let you know when i receive any news i think you would know geoffe macey as well was,nt his mother gertie,s sister thelma another great lady.by for know regards yvonne haley.

by jamboree on 2008-11-22 00:48:22

If Lizzie was Elizabeth, who married Charles Austin then she is part of my Stevens family. Alex married Ruby Austin - Fred I don't have in the line but it could be a nick name. Kath Macey and I share a common ancestor in William Alfred Shufflebottom (Stevens). Kath and Pat worked on the family history with some others in the 1980's and there were a lot of errors in it. My grandmother was Gertie Stevens who married Gwydir Maidens (Guy) and lived at Biniguy almost all their lives.

hi there june my husband said to say hello graham haley i have just found my great grandparents it is not edward place it is stephen stevens and he was married to ellen have not got her maiden name as yet i have sent for pops death certificate arthur edward stevens and i shall keep you informed merry christmas yvonne haley.

by jamboree on 2008-12-12 13:36:48

Hi Yvonne - you are definitely part of the same line then. Stephen Stevens does not appear to have ever married Ellen (at least no record has been found in NSW or Qld). Ellen's maiden name appears to have been Moore and she was born abt 1849. She was married to Robert Bevan Jones in 1863 at Inverell. There is a Robert Bevan Jones listed as a school teacher at Ashford in 1872 which might be the same person. Her last child to Jones was in 1873, I have not yet found a death record for him but Ellen pops up with Stephen in 1875. The first few kids were registered under the surname Moore including Arthur Edward in 1877 if my information is correct. Other children were Steve b 1885, Andrew b 1879, Mabel 1884, Harry J 1886,then Ruby b 1890 and Ivy b 1893. Stephen is only listed on one birth certificate and that is Ivy's. Ivy is also listed as on the BDM index with the surname of Stevens so it appears that somewhere along the line there was a revision of information on her birth certificate. Stephen Stevens died 1918 and was buried in the R/C part of the cemetery in Inverell but I've not been able to find a death or burial for Ellen!!!

This is an unusual line and I'm glad finally to have found someone from this line.

by jamboree on 2008-12-12 21:01:25

Hi Yvonne

Did you order the death certificate through BDM's or did you get a transcript from one of the transcription agencies. The transcripts are a lot cheaper and contain the same information - the only difference is that you can't use them for legal reason. They are fine for family history though and cost $14-16 rather than $26. I have additional information listed below:
