There are lots of Clarks. Clark was also spelled Clarke in England. Clark, as it sounds, means "clerk". It is an extremely common name. I would look to see, first, if you believe your family name came from settlers in Virginia or Massachusetts. John Clarke, the first mate on the Mayflower, had made voyages to both colonies. Then, I would see who your earliest traceable Clark Family member was. What part of the British Isles were they born in? What region? What town? Usually, if you can get that, you can trace them to various branches of Clarks. My Clarks came to Connecticut and Massachusetts. Therefore, I have been able to go to websites that connect them all. Since your ancestors are from Tennessee, most likely they followed the path of the likes of Andrew Jackson. They originally were in the Tidewaters of Virginia, then probably western North Carolina, and Tennessee. It sounds like they eventually got to Texas. Ditto with my Clarks, but in a northerly route. The Clarks went from the Boston Area to western Massachusetts to Ohio and into the greater Midwest.
