"looking for whakapapa of Rapata/Te kanawa/Erueiti/Tamainupo Whanau"

Journal by Rangipare

My Name is Susan Watene, I am a descendant of Tamainupo of Ngati Wairere. My Greatgrandmother is Hoana Rapata or Erueiti or Te Kanawa, this is the person I am looking for.

No one in my Whanau knows very little about her. She married Lauderdale Maule Carnachan, he was a land surveyor. They had 5 children, I am grandchild Kate Rangipare Carnachan who married Walter Mconie. They had a farm in Ngutunui/Pirongia.

My Marae is Rakaunui where we believe Hoana was buried. I now have 7 children which I would love to pass my whakapapa on to to preserve our whanau.

My e-mail address is ricotroy@xtra.co.nz

Dear Susan, Kia Ora and Welcome. There are others here at FamilyTreeCircles who are also researching their Whakapapa with regards to the Erueti name, and they are:-

AliceHirini, kamo, sefton and t_e_n_e.

Search here in the top right-hand corner for 'whakapapa' and you will see many links to get you started, including a link to the Whakapapa Club Papa Panui, Notices, Forum etc.

Helenslee. The Helenslee was a ship that sailed from Glasgow 10 September 1864 - arrived Auckland 23 December 1864. Of the passenger list, one family was the Carnachan's. Husband David aged 38, a Labourer, and wife Elizabeth aged 28 yrs, with their three children: Fox Maule aged 7yrs, Lauderdale aged 3yrs and Catherine aged 1yr.

A search of online Birth, Death and Marriage - Historical Records New Zealand reveals:-

Sarah PIERCY 1865~1946 married in 1881 New Zealand to Fox Maule CARNACHAN 1857~1904.

Their children were:-

1.Robert CARNACHAN born 1882 died 1883 aged 13 months
2.Ellinor Steton CARNACHAN born 1883
3.Robert CARNACHAN born 1884 died 1955
4.Allan Barr CARNACHAN born 1887 died 1971
5.Elizabeth CARNACHAN born 1889
6.Edward Piercy CARNACHAN born 1892 died 1940
7.Kate CARNACHAN born 1896
8.Angus Te Poroa CARNACHAN born 1894
9.Fox Maule CARNACHAN born 1899 died 1978

And there was a marriage in 1921 between Olive Edith BERRY and Fox Maule CARNACHAN - no doubt also related.

Ancestral Search Messageboards is a good place to start for NZ research also. You will have to register for an account and wait for an acceptance email before you can login to their forums. Worth the wait though.

Best wishes.

Hi Andre, that Dick Mconie who was to have married Kate, must be a different Dick Mconie who currently stays down Waitara way.
