Looking for information on Hans Christoffer (Christian) Hansen born in Aarhus Denmark 15th March 1857

Question by Graham2

Have sketchy details on his life. His parents were Morten Fischer Hansen and Anna Peterson. Have information he was in the The Engineer Battalion from 5th May 1879, went to Berlin in July 1876, serve with the Navy in 1879. there is records of going to the Dutch West Indies April 1880 to serve with West Indian Army detachment and it looks like in January 1882 presented a paid man to serve for him, it seems that was quite common, looks as though he had served as a volunteer and a private could pay another man to stand in for him.
Must be the adventurous type, have found a census of him being in the United Kingdom at some stage and eventually settling in Pakenham Australia. Marrried a Janet Tenderson, nee Hunter, he lived until 1937, have made contact with the families, there was a son who went to NZ, but why he went to Balclutha we do not know.

Just trying to write a family history, the Third Generation.
