Hi Sharon
My great-grandmother, Margaret Laird Forbes ( Nee Fraser ) was born in Aberdeenshire on 21st March 1880.
her parents were James Fraser and Mary ( Nee LAIRD ), who was born in 1846 at Bank House, New Aberdour. They were married at Aberdour on Dec 10, 1867
So my great-great-grandmother was a Laird, and the name was also given to both my grandmother and mother as middle names.

Mary Fraser ( Nee Laird ) had 9 children : Bella (1872),Chrissie (born 1874), Jessie Anne Bruce (1876), Marjory MacDonald (1877), Mary Jane ( born 1878), Margaret Laird (1880: my g-g-grandmother), Lizzie, Jemima J, Alexander Laird ( 1885).
Since Alexander Laird was the only son, it seems there is a good chance that he was related to the Alexander Laird you mention. ( perhaps a grandson ? )
My great-grandmother used to joke that when asked how many children were in the family, the sisters would answer "we are 8 sisters and we each have 1 brother". many people mistakely assumed there were 16 children!

If you find any other info, I'd love to share with you.
regards
Heather

Heather:

Can you contact me directly at my home email address please

robin_lamb@telus.net

I have TWO families for Mary Laird, and have just been going through the censuses on ancestry trying to figure this out

much easier to do it directly.

lots of info but can be quite confusing.

how sure are you of all your dates?? think I have found the correct family, but unfortunately they are NOT connected to mine, as far as I can tell, but think it weird that Alexander Laird should marry Elizabeth Riddell in 1806 and have a family and then another Alexander Laird should marry ANOTHER Elizabeth Riddell in 1846 and have the some children named the same .....
wonder IF the villages were REALLY that small to make this a possible occurance.
and I guess somehow they could be related farther back but at the moment I DON'T see the connection.

As I said rather complicated, but am willing to help....
so contact me directly at my home email address PLEASE.

look forward to sharing.
