New Zealand Herald, 24 January 1896 We regret to have to chronicle the death of one of our oldest and most respected citizens, Mr Kirby Redgment Andrews, who died at his late residence, Albert-street, on Dec. 29, at the age of 71. Deceased arrived here in the ship 'Arithnesia' 43 years ago

Mr Barchard arrived her in the year 1840 in the ship Duke of Portland, in the same vessel as the late Mr Thomas Macky. On his arrival he commenced business at the corner of Victoria Lane. He subsequently opened the Wharf Hotel, and at the opening of the Thames goldfield he was one of the first on the field, where he started business as hotelkeeper in Pollen-street. Latterly he has been living in retirement. For some years he held the position of Lieutenant in the Auckland Navals. Deceased leaves a widow and grown up family
