Looking for Borthwicks of Caithness-shire

Query by shonaborthwick

I have spent months looking for information on my G. Grandparents. My Grandfather and his siblings are listed on their immigration forms as being born in Caithness. I haven't been able to find birth records or a census to verify this information. I know I have family in the area, but have no idea what their names are.

My G. Grandfather Robert Borthwick(B. 1874), My G. Grandmother Margaret (don't have a maiden name)(1877), Chrissie (B. 1907), Donald (my Grandfather)(B.1908), Margaret (B.1910), Agnes (B.1912), Robert (B.1915), Johan (B.1918) and John (B.1920). They all came to Canada in 1924 except my 2 G. Aunts, Mary (don't have a married name) and Ina who I believe married a McLean. My Grandfather Donald travelled to Scotland to see his sisters between 1973 and 1976 and I believe there was an article written in the local newspaper. I am unsure were the old homestead is,(it was a pile of rocks in the 70's), but it would be in either the Caithness or Sutherland area.

Anyone having any information would be greatly appreciated as I am at my wits end.

Hallo cousin ! I am Davidina's grand daughter. My mum was her oldest daughter Sheila. I met Jack & Hannah, Agnes and Johan & Henry when they visited Thurso. Auntie Mary lived at Craggie, Rogart but the original family lived at Polly at Rosehall l believe. My cousin Sheena has done some of the family tree but l can certainly fill in some of the blanks. Auntie Mary's daughter Sheila lives near Inverness. My only remaining aunt lives in Helmsdale, Sutherland. Nana (Ina) had 4 children, Sheila, my mum, out of wedlock, (died 1990 In a car crash ) then she married Joe Sutherland from Castlehill, Dunbeath and had Margaret ( still alive) Maisie, died at 49 of a brain tumour and George, died at 60 of throat cancer. Mum had 4 children, l am the youngest, Margaret has 3 as did Maisie, George has 2 'adopted' sons, his widow is still alive. Where do you live ? I am 52 and have 2 children :-)

Hi Cousin! I was beginning to think that nobody would answer this post! Since I posted this, I found a wealth of information. Let me first begin with my family and I. My grandfather Dan had 1 daughter and 3 sons. Joyce is still alive and lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with 1 son. Henry (My father) lives in Elkford, B.C., Canada and has my brother and I. Gary passed away Setember of 2011 of a heart attack, he had 4 sons and 2 daughters. You need to send me your name and email address as I can see us passing a lot of information back and forth. I am 40 and have 2 children. My son Alex is 21 and has left home. My daughter Heather is almost 17 and lives at home. I am divorced and live with my parents. My brother Shane and his wife live in the same town also and has 2 grown step-children. My email address is arewethereyet79@hotmail.com. I am so glad you got ahold of me and I hope to here from you soon!
