Andrew McMenamin was declared bankrupt in 1872. He was living in Grasmere at that time as a contractor.

In 1876 he applied for deferred payment on section 41 in the Wairio district. Wairio is 70km north of Invercargill

In 1876 he had the Melbourne Hotel in Dee St, Invercargill, suplying all liquors of the best brands and first-class stabling

A daughter Bridget, died at the age of about 1 in April 1877

In December 1877 his tenders (3) were accepted by the Southland Town Council to form footpths in Avenal road, Main North road, Fos street and Lowe street. His total tenders amounted to 207 pounds which in December 2009 was worth $27,259

In 1877 he was giving evidence in the death of Thomas Casserly

In 1879 a Patrick, James and Andrew McMenamin were involved in a Fire in Makarewa - Makarewa is 10km north of Invercargill

In May 1879 Andrew McMenamin, late Hotelkeeper, was declared bankrupt

Also in 1879 November, Mrs Bridget Francis was buried in the East Road Cemetery. Her remains left Andrew's residence - St Andrews street at East Invercargill

Andrew opened the boarding and lodging house in Esk St, Invercargill in 1880. It was originally the Melbourne Dining Rooms

In 1882 he was living in Grasmere and, as a contractor, was declared bankrupt

In 1886 Andrew, along with others, nominated Walter Sinclair Waterston for Mayor of Gladstone which is 3km north of Invercargill

In 1901 he paid 22 pound (3,487) for a half yearly rent of section 6A at the Ringway Estate which was am aquired property of 2231 acres, sub divided and submitted to the ballot

Mr and Mrs Andrew McMenamin sold all their property and left the district for parts unknown in 1912 along with her mother Mrs Crean. Their friends and neighbours gave them a farewell evening and presented them with a marble clock.

Nothing is found of him after that

He was buried in the 24th May 1921 aged 75 in plot 2 of the Winton (Old) cemetery along with Mrs McMenamin (Mary) who died on the 24th June 1898 aged 52 and also Annie Ellen Mcmenamin 25th July 1894 who was 19

His full name was Andrew John and he lived most of his life in Christchurch
What I am trying to confirm is the children that Andrew senior had
I know some were William, Hugh, Bridget, Annie (died aged 19)and Andrew John. I think he had nine children but can't get enough detail to verify.
Would like to know your interest in this family (my mother was a descendant of Andrew).
