McDougall - Perthshire Scotland to New Brunswick

Journal by JRMacDougall

I believe my family goes back to the Loch Tay area of Scotland to Donald McDougall and Isobel McLaren. Their son, my great great great grandfather, Hugh McDougall was born in 1761 married Jane(t) McDiarmid and was teaching at the Crannich school at Cragannester at the time that the family emigrated to Canada in the summer of 1817. Hugh's younger brother Alexander McDougall and wife Catherine Buchanan had emigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1795. Their sister Catherine McDougall also emigrated to Canada and was there at the time of the Miramichi forest fire in 1825. Hugh died in 1827 and his wife, Jane, in 1862. Alexander and his wife Catherine both died in 1834.

In the family, there is an 1834 letter to Jane (McDiarmid) McDougall from her brother Donald McDiarmid, Lower Lawers, with news from Perthshire inculding news of his family. He has 4 sons and as many daughters; Margaret, Peter, Jannet, Hugh, John, Jean, Malcolm and Christianna who is 2.

I believe that Donald McDiarmid married Margaret McPherson and that his parents were Peter or Patrick McDiarmid and Margaret Crerar. All Donald McDiarmid's children married and his son, Peter, died in Manitoba, Canada.

I am interested in connecting with anyone who is working on these families.
