Matthew McMahon 1867-1935 son of Patrick McMahon 1803-1885 and Honora O'Brien 1832-1913 married Eliza Ann Smith 1873-1944 on the 20 October 1891 at Wentworth. They moved from Wentworth to The Billabong in Mildura, Victoria in 1900 then moved to Ninth St., Mildura in 1914.
They are buried at Merbein Cemetery.

Hi, I have found your thread through a Google search and would love to add my bits. I have some info on the McMahon family as Matthew McMahon is my husbands Great Grandfather, however I haven't gone back any further than that at the moment so this thread has helped me a lot. I probably have some photos of the McMahon's somewhere (just starting genealogy again after taking a couple of years break, but have been researching our tree for about 12 years). I would love to get a copy of the photo you mention above if possible.

I'm a bit confused over Patrick McMahon. In the first post he is married to Honora O'Brien and then in the post from the Australian Death Index his father is Pat McMahon and his mothers name is Nora Obryan? This sounds like a mix up somewhere. Is it just me reading the info wrong?

I am confused about that birth index too, cbvsad. I have no idea who supplied that information and it wouldn't be the first time the informant has got it wrong. I have looked at 4 other trees and none of those trees have Patrick McMahon's parents as anything other than what appears on that index. So until someone finds an alternative it looks like that's it for now!
I have unsourced information from the McMahon/O'Brien Family tree which states that Patrick McMahon died at Doctor's Creek Lexton Victoria of Fatty Disease of Heart, Senility. on the 29 December 1885. The death was registered in Victoria Reg.#14192 which is the same number as in the Index.
This family tree also states that he is buried at Amherst Cemetery on the 31 December 1885.
I found his residence at Lexton = Allotment 65c Caralulup - 6 miles from Talbot Shire of Lexton, County of Talbot Vic Australia.
I can email you the copy of the photograph which was supplied by Elizabeth who owns the McMahon/O'Brien Family Tree - it is a public tree.

This Pyrenees Pioneers Newsletter from The Avoca and District Historical Society, although not about the McMahon's does have something about Lexton and Doctors Creek. Perhaps if you contact this Society they may have some knowlege of the McMahons' all the numbers are on the homepage.

Just to fill in the gap Francis Henry died 15/12/1974 in Prahran Victoria.
As far as Patrick's parents go, my understanding is that the O'Brians/O'Bryans married McMahons to keep land ownership in the same family and that they are correctly listed as Patrick's parents. You will find the same names repeating themselves throughout this family line. cbvsad, I would be interested to know which of Matthew's children you are descended from.

I would be interested in any information on Ellen Margaret McMahon who married Stanley Victor Williamson. They had two sons one was my father Reginald Ambrose Williamson he was born in 1921 and the other son was James.

Hi Maureen, my name is Liz Williamson nee McMahon and my Grandfather was Ellen Margaret's brother William. he was born in 1905 and Ellen in 1898. Do you have the group photo of Matthew and Eliza's family? Do you have any photos of Ellen Margaret or Reginald or James?
Ellen Margaret died at the Royal Women's Hospital on 20th November 1923. According to her death certificate she had 4 children. Victor (died), James 4, Reginald 2, and Leslie 8, weeks. Ellen died from acute salpingitis (fallopian tubes),general peritonitis and toxaemia. She was only 25 years old. So sad!
I have been researching the McMahon family for 30 years and have just about finished the book! Kind regards Liz
