Arrival of "The Lady Nugent"

Lady Nugent

Q.Can you confirm where exactly they came from? England or Wales?
Q.Were Thomas & William BEVAN born 1836 ... twins?

by babess on 2008-02-04 00:18:40

Thomas and William were not twins, as far as I know, Thomas Jnr was born in 1836 and William in 1838.

My Bevan family left Yardington Street, Whitchurch, England.

My grt grt grandfather William Bevans grandparents David and Sarah Bevan were from Wrexham, Wales

Some research on the Bevan family has already been done for you, if you find the Bevan family book named 'Tatou Tatou' you will find photos, geneology and the story of the travels from England to here in New Zealand. The Book is at the Turnbull Library to my Knowledge.Alot of the original photos are there also along with other bits and pieces.

There is a Mary Ann Bevan born abt 1808 who had brothers Thomas and William, from Wales. Mary Ann married in abt 1827 to Edward Prince (born abt 1802 in Wales) and they came out on the ship Lady Nugent in 1840/41, accompanying them was Thomas Bevan and his wife Mary.

Who did William Marry ?

What was Thomas's wife's maiden name?
can anyone help with those questions please.

Edward Prince is my great great grandfather who definitely married a Mary Ann Bevan (I have an orignal certified certificate of this)
Not sure where the surmane Greatbatch came in ?

by mandy11 on 2010-03-20 00:52:11

I see from previous entries that Thomas Bevan and his wife Mary had a Mary who married a person Greatbatch, so i guess that is where it fits, and not mary ann.

Hello--
I am descended from William Bevan who married Annie Ngapaki. (Their daughter Mary Josephine is my great grandmother)
Thomas Bevan (born between 1798 -1801 in Wrexham Wales and died 25 June 1881 in Otaki New Zealand) married Mary Beavan(born abt September 1803 Whitchurch, Shropshire) Thomas was a rope-maker in Whitchurch. The family departed from Gravesend October 1840 aboard the Lady Nugent for a five month journey to New Zealand arriving 17th March 1841. Their children are noted on the passenger list:
George (1823-1866), Edward (1825-1854), Henry (1829-1841) Margaret (1832 - 1922), Mary (1834-1908), Thomas (1836-1913), William (1838-1913) Infant (1841-1841). Thomas's wife Mary, their infant born on the journey and son Henry all died on route. Mary died 30th January 1841. Henry died 4th March 1841. The infant lived for 8 days only.
I hope this is helpful.
I'm also looking for more information about Annie Ngapaki if anyone can help with research.

Tēnā koe Paula,

I was wondering if you were able to share the pepeha of Annie Ngapaki?
This knowledge has been lost from my whanau and the only info that has been passed down is that our iwi is Ngāti Raukawa.
William Bevan the son of Annie whom married Mata Hokepera Clark is my link to the Ngapaki whanau.

Would appreciate any help here if you have that info.
