Rachel married 6 July 1864 in Ballarat to Charles KERBY not KIRBY. They were my gt gt grandparents who left Melbourne on board the "Tararua" bound for Auckland, New Zealand on 28 Aug 1868. Charles and Rachel set up home in the Thames area New Zealand where they remained for the rest of their lives. They had 7 chn:
1.Charles KERBY b: 24 Jan 1865 Ballarat, Victoria, Australia
2. Jane KERBY b: 22 Jan 1867 Ballarat, Victoria, Australia
3. Emma KERBY b: 14 Apr 1869 Kuranui Range, Thames, New Zealand
4. Henry KERBY b: 4 Jun 1871 Moanatairi, Thames, New Zealand
5. Joseph KERBY b: 13 May 1873 Moanatairi, Thames, New Zealand
6. William KERBY b: 31 Oct 1875 Shellback, Thames, New Zealand
7. Esther KERBY b: 2 Jan 1878 Shellback, Thames, New Zealand

Rachel
married: 1864 Charles KIRBY.
Ref: VMI #3377.

Sorry, hit submit by accident and lost my connection.

Their first son Charles was recorded under KERBY, as was Jane, but as I have not followed this family line could not confirm the correct spelling.

KIRBY may have been an index error, or the name was recorded wrong to start with. Variations in the spelling of names can cause problems, but if you follow the family lines you soon pick up the errors.

Corrections are always appreciated as this helps other researchers.

And thank you for the extra details on the KERBY family.
