.. from the above link (written 1905):- Mr George Ott, who now resides in Tay Street, Invercargill, was born in Germany in 1831, and learned the trade of a tailor in his native country. He came to New Zealand by the ship 'Maori', in 1847, and found work as a journeyman in Dunedin; and he remembers when there were no houses in sight from the spot where the Cargill monument now stands. Mr. Ott settled at Invercargill in 1862, when the site of the borough was covered with bush, and there was no demand for tailors. Notwithstanding this he commenced business, and continued until 1881, when he retired owing to ill health and has since resided in Tay Street. Mr. Ott served as a volunteer in the early days, and was a member of the first Town Board. He married a daughter of Mr. Angus Murray, of Sutherlandshire, Scotland, and has two sons and one daughter.

Hi Ngariedith,As a lot of these OTT's are on my family tree I have done quite a bit of research. The Maria Ott you have marrying Valentine Bushley is actually Valentine BUCHLEY from Switzerland M.7/11/1858 @ St Andrews Christchurch..Yes, I know that that is what is on the marriage cert, but when I was unable to find out anything more about him I had an online chat with Christchurch library and they gave me that information.
BRILLIANT marbra - thank you
Sorry that surname is BUCHLY without the E.
Hello Ngairedith,I was wondering if you had any more information on William Alexander OTT as I had not known of him before. The only information I had was that Johan Jacob and Frederika OTT had 4 sons and a daughter.(They were my great grand parents).
Hi there, William Alexander Ott was not the son of Jacob Ott. I've just written a short bio for him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Ott
