Hugh's year of birth and parents names may help to ID him in the records. Same details for his wife, if married, would also help.

Hugh was born May 24th 1870.His parents where Isack Banham and Mary Banham.
His wife Mary was born approx 1872 Her parents where Robert Utteridge and Mary Utteridge.
It would appear that before the 1911 UK census He either died ,separated divorced.or emigrated. His wife was in service in the 1911 census and his two children Athur(my father)was in the workhouse in Birmingham and his sister Lily in a home for training girls Aston Birmingham. My father never mentioned any of his past life.So I have no point of reference.Thank uou for your interest.

Thanks for the extra details Margy.

I have searched the New Zealand and Australian marriage and death records for Hugh Isaac BENHAM but nothing comes up under that name.

This does not solve your problem, but it's a start.

Thanks for that,The surname is Banham. He seems to have completely dissappeared, leaving his wife and children.I have discovered that there was a child born in Birmingham 1898 named Horace Hugh BANHAM who was christened at St James Church Birmingham, and died later that year >perhaps that was the local church and possibly I could do some research.there.I seem to be coming up against brick walls. But obviously there was a child born before Lily.

BANHAM is the name I searched for and BENHAM is a typo error on my part. I must have been typing at high speed and did not notice my spelling error. Once I get going I can type up to 15 wpm.

Now that you mention it the name may have appeared as BENHAM and I will have another look tomorrow.

We all have brick walls Margy. I've been looking at one for twenty years.

I dont know whether you ever made any progress on Hugh Isaac but interestingly his sisters Betsey and Mary Elizabeth also disappear - or least I cant find them in the 1911 Census. So perhaps they emigrated with Hugh. Also I found a travel record for a Miss L . Banham arriving in Sydney in 1914 . Travelling alone. No other info like age . Havent seen Hugh in a US or Canadian Census but still looking.

Tony Banham
