- Martin served in WWI as Second Lieutenant 6/3227 with the NZEF, 11th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Battalion, C Company,embarking from Wellington 1 April 1916. His next of kin was his father, H. E. Burrell, Railway Foreman, Railway Department, Auckland.
