Richard F. Gogol (Gog), 64

EDGEWATER, Fla. - Richard F. Gogol (Gog) 64 entered the gates of heaven March 16, 2015, with his wife Sharon of 35 years by his side. They resisted in Edgewater, Fla., along with their loving dog Henry.

He was the son of George and Dot Gogol of Newell.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Dot; brother, George (Regina) Gogol; sister, Gretchen (Jerry) Madden; Heidi (John) Bryant; John (Hillary) Gogol; brother-in-law Larry Williams and sister-in-law, Linda (Flick) Riley. Lots of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Preceded in death by his father George and Brother Stanley.

A celebration of his life will be held Sept. 5, 2015 in Newell.

Baldwin Brothers, at New Smyrna Beach, Florida has been entrusted with arrangements.

Helen W. Scott, 87

SHIPPINGPORT - Helen W. Scott, 87, of Shippingport, died quietly Monday evening, March 30, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.

Born Oct. 30, 1927, in East Liverpool, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Gladys (Berry) Pallard. Mrs. Scott had worked at the Shippingport Post Office for 32 years, retiring as postmaster. She was a member of Green Valley Methodist Church of Shippingport, where she also served as organist and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Midland Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former mayor of Shippingport, and prior to that had served many years on council.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Scott Sr., and two brothers, Wayne and Harold Pallard.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, Raymond E. II (Christine) Scott, Raccoon Twp., and Pamela (Daniel) Maxwell, Hookstown; a brother and his wife, Robert (Shirley) Pallard, Ohio; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Pallard, Florida, and Carolyn Pallard, Ohio; five grandchildren, Raymond E. III (Marcie) Scott, Valerie (Christopher) Willimet, Kristy (Eric) Vernaccini, Kelly (Christopher) Hankey and Samantha Maxwell, and eight great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Logan, Ava, Ty, Sophia, Lucia, Jayden and Madelyn.

Family and friends are welcome to call at McConnell Funeral Home, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner-Director, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with additional viewing Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Wilmer J. Olszewski, of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Susan Pickering, of the Green Valley United Methodist Church, Shippingport.

Entombment will follow in Beaver Cemetery Mausoleum.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Good Samaritan Hospice for the compassionate care shown their mother while at their facility.

Lloyd E. Beach, 87

EAST LIVERPOOL - Lloyd E. Beach, 87 of East Liverpool passed away at The Nentwick Care Center on Monday March 30, 2015.

He was a son of the late Rex and Lula Garland Beach and he was born on May 17, 1927 in Cumberland, Maryland.

Lloyd most enjoyed being with his family, and he was retired from the City of East Liverpool's Incinerator Dept.

Sadly, he had only recently suffered the loss of his loving wife, Opal Beach on February 5, 2015.

Lloyd was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Summers and his daughter, Mary Cline.

Surviving are his children, Kathy Sage and husband Colvin of East Liverpool, Debbie Moore and husband Joe of Columbiana, and Mike Summers of Paden City, W.Va.; along with eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

In fulfilling Lloyd's wishes, private family services are being held at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.

Linden J. McDevitt, 83

EAST LIVERPOOL - Linden J. McDevitt, 83 of East Liverpool passed away at The Orchards of East Liverpool, on Tuesday March 31, 2015.

He was a son of the late Arthur and Aida Hindes McDevitt and was born on July 16, 2015.

Linden was a graduate of East Liverpool high school. Following graduation he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Europe.

A Union Carpenter with Local #171, Linden was a member of the East Liverpool American Legion and VFW Post #66. He was an avid golfer with several holes in one to his credit. Linden was very proud to contribute to the U.S. Olympics by donating as often as possible.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur 'Bud', Robert 'Bob', and Richard 'Dick' McDevitt; and his sisters, Mary McDevitt, Patricia Culp, June Simcox and Katherine 'Katie' Maloney.

Surviving is his brother, Gary McDevitt of Surprise, Ariz.; sisters, Lucille Smith of Calcutta, Elsie Jenkins of Navarre, Ohio. and Hannah Flynn of East Palestine.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Orchards of East Liverpool and the Hospice of Austintown for the compassion and care given to Linden in his time of need.

In fulfilling Linden's wishes, no services are being held and he is in the care of the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.

EAST LIVERPOOL - Megan Mercedes Norrid, 16, of East Liverpool, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009.

She was born June 5, 1992, in Bedford, Texas, a daughter of Darrell L. Norrid of Fort Worth, Texas, and Stacy Collins Robinson of East Liverpool.

She was a student of Oak Glen High School, where she was a former cheerleader.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister, Kendal Robinson of East Liverpool; three brothers, Jacob Robinson of East Liverpool, Samuel Schutt and Adam Schutt of Fort Worth, Texas; maternal grandparents, Donald and Margaret Ann Collins of Newell; paternal grandparents, Tom and Barbara Boenisch of Alvarado, Texas; paternal great-grandfather, Delbert Treadeau of Valley View, Texas; a stepmother, Cheryl Norrid of Fort Worth, Texas; and her future stepfather, Mike Wolfe Jr. of East Liverpool; a niece, Madalyn Schutt; nephew, Dyllan Schutt; an aunt, Angela Collins; two uncles, Shannon Norrid and Tommy Heath; and many cousins and friends.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, with Pastor Mike Direnzo officiating.

Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock County Animal Shelter or the Megan Norrid Memorial Fund, c/o The First National Community Bank.

EAST LIVERPOOL-John K. Coleman, 61, of East Liverpool died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at his home following a brief illness. John was born in East Liverpool on June 22, 1953 a son of the late Charles Coleman and Jackie (Skeens) Baker. Having lived his entire life in the area, John was a graduate of Beaver Local High School. He was an electrician by trade working from the Union IBEW 246.

John is survived by a brother, Dan Coleman of East Liverpool; a sister, Susan Younger of East Liverpool; a niece, Rachel a great niece, Skyler and many friends including a special friend in Jeff Russell.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Burial will take place in Columbiana County Memorial Park

Ed Lee Parker, 97

WELLSVILLE-Ed Lee Parker, age 97, of Wellsville passed away at East Liverpool City Hospital on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, after a brief illness.

The son of the late Edmond and Edith (Ingram) Parker, he was born in Wilcox, Alabama on May 4, 1917 and had lived in the area most of his life. Mr. Parker was a graduate of the former Irondale High School and was a graduate of Pennsylvania Institute of Barbering in Pittsburgh, Pa. He had been employed at the former Crucible Steel in Midland, Pa. where he last worked as a Laborer, retiring in August 1981.

He was a Veteran serving during W.W. II with the U.S. Army, was a founding member of V.F.W. Post 9285 which later combined with V.F.W. Post 5647. He was a member of Lee's Chapel A.M.E. Church in Wellsville where he had served as Treasurer, Steward and adult Sunday School Teacher.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Willia Mae (Vaughns) Parker, on Oct. 9, 1999, they were married on Jan. 4, 1947.

Survivors include his children, Gwendolyn Webb of Moreno Valley, Calif., James Parker of Columbus, Ohio, Candy Cogdell and her husband, Darryl, of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Ed Linger also of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren, Teka Pendelton-Johnson and her husband, Ted, of Columbus, Ohio., Tamika "Nikki" Webb, Garrett Cogdell, Danielle Cogdell and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Naomi Gooch, of Wellsville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Willie, and five sisters, Liza, Rosie, Alice, Merdis, and Odessa.

Services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015, at the Lee's Chapel A.M.E. Church in Wellsville at 11 a.m. with Rev. Eddie Renfro and Rev. Paula Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery where the Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors.

Betty Beaver, 85

CALCUTTA - Betty Beaver, 85 formerly of Newell, W.Va. passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Calcutta Health Care following a brief illness.

She was born in West Union, West Virginia on Nov.7, 1929 a daughter to the late Okey and Vondia (Duty) Underwood. Betty attended Doddridge County High School and worked for K-Mart in the Apparel Division as a sales clerk for 14 years before retiring in 1994. She was a member of Newell United Methodist Church and the Triangle Seniors of Calcutta.

She is survived by four sons: William 'Chuck' Sines of Indiana, Lanny Bruce Sines, whom she resided with of Newell, W.Va., Daniel Shultz of Florida and Timothy Shultz of Homeworth, Ohio; two daughters: Carolyn Tarver of East Liverpool, and Diana Hooper of Wellsville; two brothers: Shelvia Underwood of Youngstown and Larry Joe Underwood of West Virginia; one sister: Phyllis Bosworth of East Liverpool; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Victor H. Beaver whom she married Oct. 22, 1970; two sons: David J. Shultz and Victor H. Beaver Jr.; two daughters: Diana Beaver and Linda Rutan; five brothers: Okey, Paul, Eugene, William and Willard Underwood; six sisters: Olive Saltsman, Zula Gatti, Ileen Hughes, Esther Dillon, Helen Gibson and Mary Underwood and one granddaughter.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmyer Funeral Home with pastor Kara Rowe of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Family will be present to receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Calcutta Funeral Home.

James H. ‘Jim’ McConnell, 65

SOMERSET, Ohio -James H. 'Jim' McConnell, 65, of New Somerset, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in Trinity Med. Center West in Steubenville, Ohio.

Jim was born April 27, 1949 in Steubenville, son of the late Howard and Mildred Yocum McConnell.

He was a lifelong member of the New Somerset Christian Church. Jim was retired from Timet - Titanium Metals Corp., with 37 years of service, in Toronto where he was a millwright working in maintenance repair.

Jim was a lifelong caretaker of the family farm on Yellow Creek.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother that he picked up along the way, Dan Swartz.

Jim leaves behind his wife, Marsha L. (Gill) McConnell whom he married Nov. 19, 1971; his three sons, Matt of Cleveland, Ohio, Mike (Michelle) of Rew, Pa. and Steve (Erica) of Cortland, Ohio; his two grandchildren who were the light of this life, Katelyn and David; his two other brothers that he picked up along the way, Tom Cattrell and Slim Pieniazek of Yellow Creek. Jim was also a beloved uncle leaving behind three nieces and two nephews.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Sunday, March 29 from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, Ohio. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rob Minto officiating. Burial will follow in Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, Ohio.

Thomas E. Dennis, 75

EAST LIVERPOOL - Thomas E. Dennis, lifelong area resident, passed away at East Liverpool City hospital following a lengthy illness, on Friday March 27, 2015.

75 years old, Thomas was born to the late Martin and Helen Halstead Dennis in Chester, W.Va.; on July 27, 1939.

On April 7, 1986 he married the love of his life, Janet Cline Dennis and she survives in East Liverpool where they made their home and raised their family.

In addition to his wife Janet, Thomas leaves his children, Glenn Dennis (Billie Higgins); Thomas Dennis Jr., Michael Dennis both of East Liverpool, and Jerry Wilson (Belinda) of Murray, Ky.; Amy Jo Wilson of Toledo, Ohio; Angela Diagusta (Chris); Helen Stall and Amy Keener all of East Liverpool; brother, Ron Dennis (Pauline) of Florida; and Thomas leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Dennis and sisters, Shirley and Jean Fields.

In fulfilling his wishes no services are planned at this time. Thomas was entrusted in the care of the Arner Funeral Chapel.
