Leonard Fitzsimmons
EAST PALESTINE - Leonard F. Fitzsimmons, 93, of Waterford Road, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Salem Regional Medical Center, where he had been a patient.
He was born Nov. 20, 1921 in East Palestine, a son of the late Charles Ross and Lucretia Thorpe Fitzsimmons. He had held several occupations and had retired from LTV Steel, Youngstown. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having served with Battery A, the 453rd Aircraft Battalion.
His wife, the former Virginia Allard, preceded him in death.
Mr. Fitzsimmons is survived by two daughters, Sandra McCalla, at home, and Diane Clapsaddle, Lisbon, as well as a son, Jerry Fitzsimmons, Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with Robert Helbeck of the First Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4579 and the American Legion Post 31. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.

E. Murrell Byard, 64
CHESTER -E. Murrell Byard, 64, of Chester, W.Va; passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012.
He was born March 4, 1947 in Middlebourne, W.Va; a son of the late George and Sarah (Neff) Byard.
Murrell was the owner and operator of Byard's Auto Body and he built and owned classic Mustangs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Robert Byard and two sisters, Sarah and Mary Byard.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Mary (Booth) Byard of Chester; a son, Emuil Byard Jr. of Chester and a daughter , Lisa Wildman Byard of Mississippi; two sisters, Irene Diaz of Chester and Penny Campbell of New Cumberland; three brothers, James Byard of California, Tim Byard of Weirton and Joe Byard of New Cumberland.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012. Burial will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell, W.Va.

Steve Allison
CHESTER – Steve P. Allison, 16, of Johnsonville Rd. was pronounced dead at City Hospital at 6:25 p.m. Thursday.
Hancock County Sherriff Chief Deputy Alex Staklas reported the youth was found at home, an apparent suicide.
He was born in East Liverpool July 14, 1969, a son of Allen T. Allison and Sue Linger Allison.
He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the junior class at Oak Glen High School. He was a member of varsity football and basketball teams in junior high school.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Vincent Allison, at home; a sister, Kathy Allison, of Washington, D.C.; and his grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Linger of Chester.
The Rev. Dr. Robert O. Brown is to conduct services at the convenience of the family.
Burial is to be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the Arner Funeral Chapel from 7 to 9 tonight.
The family requests memorial tribute take the form of contributions to the church.

Paul A. Madison, 85
BOULDER, Colo. - Paul A. Madison, 85, longtime resident of St. Clair Ave., passed away Feb. 11, 2015 in Boulder, Colo., surrounded by his family.
He was recently preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Jean Madison.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Christy (Madison) and Stuart Bedoll; his grandchildren, Jessica Bond and Steven Bedoll; and his great-grandchildren, Shayne and Dylan. He is also survived by his brother, Howard Kay Madison of Salem and two sisters, Linda Clark and Shirley Hudson of Salineville.
He is buried alongside his wife in Columbiana Memorial Park.
Local arrangements were handled by Arner Funeral Chapel, Chester.

William S. Foulks Jr., 93
CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio - William S. Foulks, Jr., a long time Chagrin Falls resident, passed away of natural causes March 7, 2015 at the age of 93. He was a man who was extremely proud of his lifetime accomplishments and his ancestry.
He was born in Columbus. After graduating from MIT, he served as an Officer in the US Navy during World War II working on the Manhattan Project. He has numerous registered patents through his work as a Chemical Engineer while working for Harshaw Chemical, Thiokol Corp and General Electric. He is a descendant of the first permanent settlers in Ohio and a long time member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Foulks; brother, Edwin Foulks; sister, Martha Foulks Binsley.
He is survived by his niece, Edith Foulks; nephews, Edwin Foulks, Andrew Binsley and Michael Binsley.
He is buried at Longs Run Cemetery in Calcutta.
Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Janet C. Cairns, 90
CAPE CORAL, Fla. -Janet C. Cairns, 90, a Lee County Florida resident for just over a year, formerly of East Liverpool, passed Thursday, April 2, 2015, in Cape Coral, Fla.
She was born Sept. 26, 1924, in East Liverpool, to Henry Harmon and Marie Ward, now deceased.
Janet was a member of the Calcutta Nazarene Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She never missed an opportunity to serve, holding several offices on the church board and volunteering regularly.
Janet loved the outdoors, especially flowers and sunsets, and was fond of all animals, especially horses and cats. She was always very active, tending her yard and walking in the park, and was a devoted reader. She was the Mom who always drove the car and volunteered for the party.
She is survived by three loving children: Cynthia L. Cairns (Graham Caney) of Cape Coral, Shelley L. Owens of East Palestine, and Kristin G. Cannestra of Cape Coral; sister Lois Kinsey of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren: Chassidy Toppin, Corbin Detwiler, Ryan Owens, David J. Cannestra, Landry Channels and Kelly Harmon; one great grandchild, Bryar Detwiler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Cairns, in 1996.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Columbiana County Memorial Park, 16078 Irish Ridge Road, East Liverpool.

Clifton A. Christian, 80
EAST LIVERPOOL Lifetime East Liverpool resident Clifton A. Christian died at the age of 80 on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 12:15 p.m. Recently of West Sixth Street, he passed away at East Liverpool City Hospital surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Born on Oct. 26, 1934 in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late William Louis and Willie Eva Allen Christian.
He was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1952. In 1958, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and later was active with the U.S. Army Reserves.
He worked for the former Crucible Steel Company from 1953 until his retirement in 1984. Following his retirement, he worked for East Liverpool City Hospital in the laundry department.
An active member of the Second Baptist Church, he had served the church in nearly every capacity. Currently, he was treasurer, active with the Seasoned Saints Ministry, a deacon in training, a member of the Nehemiah Club and assisted with the feeding program. At one time, he had been head trustee, a member of the usher board, and a member of the choir.
He was a member of the East Liverpool High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, a life-time NAACP member, a founding member of the Emanon Club and recently he had been attending bi-weekly meetings with the men's group at Casa de Emmanuel.
At one time he was a member of the East Liverpool Health Board and served as president of the board of the Community Resource Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Wilson of Lancaster, Pa.; one brother, William A. Christian of East Liverpool; and his extended family whom he loved, the Austin family. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory many nieces and nephews who were very special to him.
Clifton was preceded in death by four sisters: Doris Ann Campbell, Geraldine Christian, Cornell Nizer and Eleanor Jane Christian; and four brothers: Charles Christian, Wesley Christian, Raymond Christian and Roy Christian, as well as a longtime companion, Alice Austin.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Rev. Ernest Peachey of the church will officiate at a funeral service to be held at the Second Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will take place at the Calcutta Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.
Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Second Baptist Church for continued remembrance.

EAST LIVERPOOL-Ruth M. (Czech) Willis 79, of East Liverpool, died March 31 at her home. She was born on Oct. 5, 1935 in Hindenberg, Germany, daughter of the late Franz and Adelheid Czech.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and a brother.
She is survived by her sons, Robert and Richard of Hindenberg, Germany.
There will be no local services. Services and burial will be in Hindenberg, Germany.

EAST LIVERPOOL - Mary (Seitz) Palm-Jett, 86, of East Liverpool died April 7, 2014 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Chester, on May 5, 1928, a daughter of the late Raymond F. Seitz, and Dorothy (Heald) Seitz.
She was a proof-reader for American Paper Products, and assisted in operating the Mary Catherine's Bridal Shop.
Survivors include: a son: Mike Palm of Lisbon; two daughters: Cathy Palm of East Liverpool, and Cindy Hooker of East Liverpool; two brothers: Frank Seitz and William "Butch" Seitz both of East Liverpool; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her first husband William Palm; and her second husband Kenneth Jett.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 1:30 p.m., with Rev Ted Ludwig officiating.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Calcutta Chapel two hours prior to service from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Burial will take place in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Dr. Thomas Johnson
SALEM-Thomas Brock Johnson, D.D.S, died peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, April 1 at his home in Salem, Ohio. He was born May 13, 1940 in Jamestown, New York to the late Merle and Althea Johnson. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1958.
After earning his degree in dentistry, Mr. Johnson enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Reserve Commissioned Officer and worked in the Dental Detachment Unit in Fort Carson, Colorado. He and his family then moved to Salem where he opened his own dental practice.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Johnson currently residing in Sebring, Ohio; his son Mark residing in Santa Monica, California; daughter Sarah residing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; son Daniel residing in Boston, Massachusetts; and sister Patricia Ross residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Salem. The Reverend Nick Mager will officiate the services. Preceding this memorial service, the family will hold a private burial Saturday morning in Grandview Cemetery with the Salem Honor Guard rendering full honors.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 10 at Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services in Salem. The family will also receive friends on Saturday after the services in Fellowship Hall.
