Hi All,

I'm having trouble tracking down Sarah Ann COSTER (nee LUCAS) in the 1881 census.

Sarah Ann LUCAS was born about 1853 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. However, each census on which she appears has a different birthplace (1861 -Birmingham, 1871 - Newbold, Warwickshire, 1881 - not located yet, 1891 - Bretby Estate, Derbyshire and 1901, Cornwall).

On 2 April, 1871 I believe that Sarah Ann is resident in the Union Lane Workhouse, Chipping Barnet, Hertfordshire, England. Listed with her is a 1 month old called Charles LUCAS. She is unmarried, a pauper whose previous profession is listed as General Domestic Servant. At this time, her parents and siblings are listed as living at East Barnet. This proximity leads me to believe that I've got the right Sarah Ann LUCAS.

On 20 Jul 1873, in Barnet, Hertfordshire, England, she married Henry COSTER and had three children, George Henry COSTER, Alfred John COSTER and James COSTER. Their first son was born in New Barnet, but the last two were born in Southgate, London, indicating that the family had moved during this period. In Sep 1877 Henry COSTER died.

I've been unable to find Sarah Ann LUCAS on the 1881 census. However, I have found a Charles COSTA (10 yrs), George COSTA (6 yrs) and Alfred COSTA (4 yrs) who are resident in the Edmonton Union School. All of this would seem to indicate that Sarah and her young family fell on hard times after the death of Henry and that the children were placed in the Union School while Sarah and her youngest son resided somewhere else, possibly her working in service somewhere.

In 1891 and 1901 she is living in Edmonton.

I've tried everything I can to track her down and would appreciate any assistance anyone can give me!

Hamilton Lewis O'Donnell married Emma Jane Todd - no change

Children - addition of one son (Irwin) and changes to birth years.

Richard Willis O'Donnell, born 1837 in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland; died 1907 in Shepparton, Vic, Australia.

Annie Jane O'Donnell, born 1840 in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland; died 1915 in Shepparton, Vic, Australia; married George McMaster; born in County Tyrone, Ireland.

Thomas O'Donnell, born 1842 in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland; died 01 Sep 1910 in Shepparton, Vic, Australia.

Irwin O'Donnell, born 06 Apr 1845 in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland; married Margaret Jane Brien.

Hamilton Lewis O'Donnell, born 13 Oct 1847 in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland; died 08 Mar 1920 in Shepparton, Vic, Australia; married Annie Brown 11 Mar 1872 in Geelong, Vic, Australia.

John James O'Donnell, born 1854 in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland; died 1920 in Boort, Vic, Australia.

Irwin is still in Ireland in 1874 but I can find no death record for him there.

All the above birth years have been confirmed.

I'm after details of the Boswell Family from Ware, Hertford, England. I have Stephen BOSWELL b. 1824, mother named Mary. No father/husband listed on the 1841 Census. Stephen married Sarah, also of Ware. I believe her maiden name may have been Brooks/Brookes. One possible connection is that on the night of the 1851 census they were listed as "visitors". The family in the house next door were Brooks. By 1861 Stephen and Sarah were in Edmonton, London. Love to hear from anyone with a connection.

Emily Eliza Rann (b 03 Jan 1899,Edmonton, Middlesex, England d. 30 Jul 1971 Maidstone, Vic, Australia) married to John Whitley on 08 Jun 1920 in Edmonton, England. They left England in Dec 1930 for Melbourne.

Two of her sisters also came out Elsie and Rosa. Both were also based in the Melbourne area.
