1,109 NZ ALL BLACKS from 1884 - NATHAN to YOUNG
the New Zealand National RUGBY UNION, called the All Blacks, represent New Zealand in international rugby union competitions.
Rugby union is regarded as New Zealand's national sport.
Winners of the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987, New Zealand are the leading points scorers of all time and the only international rugby team with a winning record against every test nation they have ever played.
The All Blacks have held the top ranking in the world for longer than all other countries combined. In over 100 years only five of the top twenty ranked test rugby nations have ever beaten New Zealand. They have won a record 75% of all rugby matches they have ever played since 1903

1,109 NZ ALL BLACKS from 1884 - GAGE to MYNOTT
the New Zealand National RUGBY UNION, called the All Blacks, represent New Zealand in international rugby union competitions.

1,109 rugby ALL BLACKS since 1884 - ABBOTT to FURLONG
the New Zealand National RUGBY UNION, called the All Blacks, represent New Zealand in international rugby union competitions.

ARMIT, Alexander McNaughton 'Barney'
- born 1874 possibly in NZ (although the All Blacks database says Scotland) it is possible that Alexander was born in NZ, his burial details says he was. His 3 older silings were born in Scotland. His parents John ARMIT (1837-1890) & Ann McNAUGHTON (1839-1924 were) were from Inverkeithing, and arrived in NZ in 1874
- Alexander died 12 Nov 1899 aged 25 in Dunedin
- DEATH OF A. ARMIT. - Alexander Armit, who was injured in the football match between Otago and Taranaki on August 26, died at the hospital yesterday morning at half-past 10. The particulars of the accident will still be fresh in the minds of our readers. Shortly after the commencement of the second spell in the match referred to Armit picked up the ball from a loose rush and ran towards Alfred Bayly, the opposing wing three-quarter, and captain of tho Taranaki team, who lifted him up and let him fall, the Dunedin player coming down on the back of his neck, and meeting with very severe injuries indeed. He was at once attended to by Drs Macpherson, Roberts, and O`Neill, and afterwards conveyed to the hospital. It was found that he was suffering from a dislocation of the spine, and that the spinal cord was badly crushed. An operation was subsequently performed, and the displaced vertebras put back to their proper position. From the first, however, the slenderest hopes were entertained of his recovery, and it was only his extraordinary vitality that enabled him to cling to life for two months after the accident. Armit`s depositions were taken on the day following the accident, when he entirely exonerated Bayly from intentionally injuring him ...
