the 10 children of John Michael KRIPPNER & Mary STRAKA - PUHOI

Johann 'John' Michael KRIPPNER (1857-1927)
was born 27 June 1857 in Mantau, Stribro, Czechoslovakia to Michael KRIPPNER (1823-1891) & Barbara SCHISCHKA (1826-1898)
Michael & Barbara emigrated to New Zealand on the WAR SPIRIT in 1863. Also on board were Michael;s brothers Captain Martin and Hans Krippner. Also Martin Schischka (1798-1878) with his 3 daughters, who may (or may not) have been related to Barbara
Michael and Barbara built their first home in NZ in Ohaupo, on a 50 acre crown grant, opposite ‘Great Burkes St, off Great South Road. For many years before the first Catholic Church was built in 1876; Holy Mass was offered in their home by visiting Priests. The sitting room proved too small and the worshippers soon spread themselves throughout the house.
Micheal was the proud possessor of the first cow in Ohaupo. Evidently he was fond of the homeland Chestnuts, for he planted several trees on his road boundary. He sold in 1876 to his daughter and son in law, Anna and James T. Edwards. Michael’s final move was in 1879 when he brought two hundred acres in Te Rore, he planted more Chestnut trees around that boundary too.
The first School in Ohaupo was opened on the 15th August 1869. Out of the role of 14 children, six of them were Bohemian settlers’ children. Their names were Andrew Karl, Patrick Karl, Vincent Karl. Emily Krippner, John Krippner and Rudolf Krippner
NOTE Michael's brother, Captain Martin Krippner (1817-1894) "The Founder Of Puhoi"

Waikato Times, 11 Aug 1921 EUCHRE PARTY
Te RORO - Despite the real cold winter weather we have experienced for the past week there was an enjoyable euchre evening last Friday for those who splashed so bravely through puddles and mud to the usual rendezvous, the school. Mrs Cuff was again the successful lady player, Mr F. S. Johnson securing a well-earned win amongst the men. Miss M. Krippner and Mr A. Bell made a charming "booby" duo. Following on supper there was a pleasant little dance, Miss R, Samuelson and Mr G. Krippner also gave several amusing recitations. Although we can hardly claim a record gathering many reached the conclusion that on a wet night there are far worse places than Te Rore school-room
