NORTHOVER - GODFREY - At St Mary's Hawera, on Tuesday, February 17th, 1920, by the Rev J. G. Castle, of Eltham, Albert Herbert Northover, of Wanganui, to Eva Nellie, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Godfrey, of Hawera. (1st of 3 chldren of Edward GODFREY & Caroline PERSTON)
- Eva was living in the Annie Brydon Rest Home, Glover Road, Hawera. She died aged 93
- Alfred worked for the railways, in Eltham, Normanby, was stationmaster in Ohakune in 1912, promoted to staionmaster in Feilding in 1915. In May 1918 he was living in Wanganui when his name was drawn in the Second Division (Class B) Ballot for war. He died in the Palmerston North Hospital on 16 June 1967 aged 83. He had been living at 118 Wood St. He was cremated at Kelvin Grove

DEATH - FATAL ACCIDENT at SHANNON 17 Aug 1895. A youth Felix McCarthy was killed at Shannon today by the capsizing of a dray. The unfortunate lad was thrown on his head on a rata root and death was almost instantaneous. Deceased was the son of Mr McCarthy, formerly in Patea but now in the Deeds Department at Wellington and nephew of Mr Northover of the Rangitikei Advocate
- From the MANAWATU HERALD 22 Aug 1895 ... the father of the lad, Felix O'Sullivan McCarthy, who was killed at Shannon has little spare time on his hands. He arrived on Saturday by the morning train and left by the evening train. The inquest was finished at 4.30pm and the body of the lad was placed in a coffin and carted to the cemetery and lowered into the grave without an attempt at any service

Morgan married Martha Jane McCOWN/McCOWAN (1895-1979) in 1926. He was buried in Whakatane Cemetery on 26 March 1952

John Hanning was born in Dunedin and worked for the railways for about 40 years in Pukerau, Upper Hutt, Te Aro, Taihape, Waipukurau, Hastings and Petone. He was honorary secretary of the Wellington South Ministers' Association and an elder of the Seatoun amd Miramar Presbyterian Church. He died at home, 7 Miro St, Miramar, Wellington
- Harold was secretary to the Egmont Box company for a number of years until Sept 1917 when he was appointed Secretary of the Eltham Dairy Company. In 1924 he was elected auditor of the Eltham Fire Brigade at their AGM on 14 July
- he died August 1925 aged 36
- he is buried OLD PLOT 12-NEW PLOT 1181, BLOCK 4 at Eltham General Cemetery

- Louis, (Eltham, South Taranaki soldier) was reported wounded in war in June 1916. He served as Rifleman 25/133 with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 3rd Battalion, B Company
- his parents Joseph & Susan were in Eltham at that time. In Nov 1916 they (Joseph & Susan) received a letter concerning Louis being dangerously wounded:
15 Nov 1916 "Brockenhurst, Hants, September 25, 1916. Dear Mr Northover, - Your son, Rifleman L. N. Northover, came into hospital a week ago having been wounded in France on September 15, when our men made an advance on the village of Flers. His wound is in the knee and has given him much pain and trouble. A piece of shell about the size of a small matchbox was taken out of it a few days ago, and he has been somewhat easier since. Nevertheless, his condition remains serious, but we all hope that his fine physique will pull him through all right. Despite his pain, he is bright and cheerful, and is happy to be safe in this comfortable hospital, where everything possible is being done for him. I know you will be happy and satisfied to have him alive out of that dreadful fight - With kind regards, yours sincerely, J. McMenamin, N.Z. Chaplain."

10 Oct 1918 WELCOME HOME. Several invalided soldiers reached Eltham last night and included in the number were H. McLaughlin (Rawhitiroa), L. N. Northover (Eltham) and Thompson (Kaponga). There was a good crowd to meet them and in the absence of the Mayor, Mr L. B. Grimstone gave them a hearty welcome on behalf of the town and district, Three hearty cheers were also given them.

- Susannah was born at sea whilst her parents were emigrating to NZ
- Joseph was one of the "Weraroa Boys" who fought during the Maori War during 1868. He was 1 of 4 people in a car which crashed 25' down a bank near Kai Iwi, when he and other Maori War Veterans were returning from the 43rd anniversary of the fight at Weraroa, held 17 Nov 1911 at the scene of the historic engagement where the Weraroa Redoubt had stood. Joseph was thrown clear, his friends received only minor injuries. They were: Richard TINGEY of Wellington & E. McCALLOCH of Wanganui (plus the chaffeur)

- 14 August 1884 - at FEILDING, Charles Hodges, of Feilding, was charged, on the information of Henry Northover, of Taonui, that he did, on the 22nd of July last, at Feilding unlawfully assault complainant by striking him on the face with his fist. Defendant did not appear. Complainant deposed to the assault, which he said was without reason or provocation of any kind. Constable Gillespie was called as a witness: Saw defendant strike complainant three severe blows in the face; he could see no reason, and there was no provocation on the part of the latter
