dedication to MURRAY LYNN (1950-2013) of KiwiCelts Q
It is with regret I announce that Murray Patrick Lynn (1950-2013), the creator, author and administrator of KiwiCelts, passed away 14 Nov 2013
His family has announced that "KiwiCelts will remain online in it's present form. Decisions about it's future development and maintenance will be made in due course"
In dedication to Murray and in honor of all his incredible hard work over the years I submit his site in an abridged form. It includes Cemeteries, Irish maps, Kiwiwiki, Research Links and his Family History from as far back as 1200 and ranges around the world, from Ireland, Scotland, England and Germany to the Argentine, the USA, Australia and New Zealand
You will find it an invaluable site in your genealogy research
Unbelievably, Murray's Genealogy Place Map Index, geneaMap Database, is not only a cemetery database but a list of all places:
* ART GALLERIES
* CEMETERIES
* CHURCHES
* LIGHTHOUSES
* MARAES
* MEMORIALS
* MUSEUMS
* ORPHANGES
* RAILWAYS
* SCHOOLS
* SHIPWRECKS
* TEMPLES
* UNDERTAKERS
* URUPA
* WAR MEMORIALS
A HUGE site so be patient as it can take a while to load
It is initially sorted at his site by:
Country-Province-District and Name, but you can re-sort it when in there by clicking on the column headings.
Clicking on the Place Name takes you to the geneaMap to see the map location and full details - address, related websites, photos etc
Was unsure the best way to present the data Murray has but finally decided to list it here in alphabetical 'Name of Place' order.
Every name is a searchable link. Visit his site to find all other relevant info

bio OLD RAGLAN SETTLER. Well-known Waterman. One of Raglan’s earliest settlers, who had the reputation of having saved eight lives from drowning in Raglan Harbour at various times, passed away at his home on Wednesday in the person of Mr Richard Ernest Galvan, aged 79 years. The late Mr Galvan had spent practically his entire life at Raglan. Born in the United States, he came to New Zealand with his parents as a boy of five and then settled at Raglan. He married Miss Sarah Ann Glover, daughter of another early settler of Raglan. She died during the influenza epidemic in 1918. Most of his life Mr Galvan hired boats and launches to fishermen and tourists on the Raglan Harbour and he was a best known figure of the place for many years before his health failed. He was a first-class swimmer and was instrumental in preventing many boating tragedies. Of a jovial disposition, Mr Galvan until the last retained a lively interest in the affairs of Raglan and its harbour, though he never sought office on public bodies. He is survived by five children, Mrs McCallurn (Rotorua), Misses M. Galvan and O. Galvan (Auckland), A. Galvan (Raglan) and Mr G. E. Galvan (Raglan). His two brothers, Messrs. Michael and David Galvan of Te Mata, and sister, Mrs Grey, of Auckland, also survive him.

bio George was a son of a Liverpool solicitor. He was a comparative stranger in the district, having only been in the district for the last few months. He was working for Mr Sutton at the time of the accident. He drowned in Raglan on 29 Jan 1903. His body was found 3 Feb. Three Lives Lost. A fatal boating accident occurred this afternoon during the open sailing boat race at the Raglan regatta, when an open boat, contain James Ensoll (48), Herbert Sutton (26), Hugh Taylor and George Lewsley (28), swamped in a still south-westerly wind. Two boats were soon on the spot, but Hugh Taylor was the only one saved, the other three sinking almost immediately. James Ensoll is a carter residing in Raglan and leaves a widow and numerous family. The others are single young men. The bodies have not yet been recovered, though every effort is being made. It appears that the boat capsized and sank off Te Akau homestead, the water in the harbour being very broken.The Kaingaro was close by and made for the scene of the accident. The Te Akau boad also put out. The Kaingaro picked up Taylor. Sutton was a splendid swimmer and was probably seized with cramps. The other two drowned men were unable swim. The yachts were having a preliminary sail before the race when the accident occurred. The sports were postponed indefinitely.

bio Three people were drowned at Raglan last Friday as the result of a small boat capsizing on the Raglan bar. They are: Percy Nelson, aged about 50 (69), William Lomas, clerk, aged 18 (William Rehi Lomas, 19 of Te Kuiti). Arnold, a boy aged 8 (Norman Arnold, age 8). The three left Raglan at 10 o'clock in a small open boat to go fishing. They were expected to return about three o'clock. Constable J. Sullivan was notified of the non-return of the boat at 7 o'clock. Mr Nelson's body was found at Mussell Rocks, on the Te Akau side of the bar. It was too dark to proceed with investigations that evening and a search party went out in the morning. The late Mr Nelson was a native of England, but has been a resident in New Zealand for many years. He saw service with the Dominion forces and lost a leg in the war. He was in receipt of a pension and left Te Kuiti for Raglan for the health purposes. The youth, W. R. Lomas, was aged about 18 and was a son of Mr G. Lomas, of King Street. He was formerly employed in the local telephone exchange and some weeks ago was transferred to Raglan. The boy Arnold is a son of a relief worker employed in the Raglan County.
THE FUNERAL of the late Mr Percy Nelson, one of the victims of the Raglan boating accident, took place on Monday. As deceased was a returned soldier, the coffin was covered with a Union Jack and war carried by returned soldiers. Many beautiful wreaths were sent, including one from the Waikato Returned Soldiers Association.

dedication to MURRAY LYNN (1950-2013) of KiwiCelts R
* ART GALLERIES
* CEMETERIES
* CHURCHES
* LIGHTHOUSES
* MARAES
* MEMORIALS
* MUSEUMS
* ORPHANGES
* RAILWAYS
* SCHOOLS
* SHIPWRECKS
* TEMPLES
* UNDERTAKERS
* URUPA
* WAR MEMORIALS

1887 - 1868 Charles Edward Moyle

Their father, Francis Moyle, was a Miner, Builder, Carpenter & Undertaker in Havelock, Waitahuna, Lawrence
Tuapeka Times, 15 June 1898
FATAL ACCIDENT AT THE BEAUMONT - The INQUEST
... An inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of William MOYLE was commenced at Mr CROSSAN's Hotel, Beaumont, on Saturday, 11th instant, before Mr Thomas PILLING, J.P., acting-coroner, and a jury consisting of Messrs Robert McKAY, John JOHNSON, Hugh CROSSAN, Alexander CAMPBELL, and James RICHARDSON, Mr Hugh Crossan was chosen foreman, Sergreant KING conducted the inquiry,
... The jury having been duly sworn and an examination of the body made.
... The Coroner intimated that the Inspector of Mines had expressed a desire to be present at the inquest and it had, therefore, been decided, after taking the evidence ofidentificaiton to adjourn the proceedings till Tuesday morning, at 11 o'clock, to enable the Inspector to be present.
... Francis MOYLE, carpenter, deposed that he had viewed the body of deceased, who was his son, WILLIAM THOMAS MOYLE. He was a labourer by occupation, and had been in the employ of the Beaumont Local Co-operative Company for about 16 months. He had last seen him alive about eight weeks ago. He was born at Waitahuna and was 24 years of age.
... At this stage, in order to save time on Tuesday, the jury visited the scene of the accident and made an examination of the ground.
......... ... On resuming on Tuesday morning
... Robert LEDLIE deposed that he was the mine manager for the Beaumont Local Co-operative Company and had been in that position for about four months. He had ten men employed in the mine, and when in regular work they worked three shifts. On the 10th instant they were engaged shifting the elevator plant, when all the hands were employed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Deceased was employed as carpenter for the Company. Witness had told him on the previous day that he wanted the elevator plant shifted and he had full control of the work, which was started on Friday morning (10th instant), James McCORKINDALE, Neil DEMPSEY and James CUMMING were assisting deceased, and he had instructions to call on any of the other men to assist when required. He saw deceased off and on while he was engaged carrying on the work. His first duty in commencing was to make a cutting into the bank for the support of the stringers of the trestle work. This was carried out on the previous day. About 2.30 p.m. on the 10th, while witness was engaged in the Company's office, he heard someone calling out as though something were wrong at the mine. He immediately went to the works and found that part of the bank where the stringer was to be placed had fallen in on deceased. He was entirely covered by the fall. With the assistance of the other men he had the dirt immediately removed and deceased taken up on to the bank. He was not dead at the time, but quite unconscious. He died while being removed to the hotel, about twenty minutes after the accident. He (witness) did not think there was the slightest danger to the men in working at that particular place. The depth of the chambers cut out were about 7ft 6in, and the length about 10ft. Although he was not personally in charge of this particular work, he was perfectly satisfied it was being carried out in a proper and workmanlike manner by the deceased. He did not think there had been any carelessness in carrying out the work. The ground was of a sandy formation, but he did not consider it of a dangerous character.
... To Mr HAYNES (Inspector of Mines): Considering the depth of the cut and that the sides were practically vertical, he did not consider a system of "shoring" necessary. He thought, from his experience of the ground, that it would stand without support. He believed the fall was due to the frost of the previous week and the thaw on the day in question. He had not reported the accident to the Inspector of Mines of the Minister of Mines , as required by the Mining Act of 1891 (section 336). He had, however, wired to the chairman of directors of the company to do all that was necessary. As a matter of fact, he was not in possession of a copy of the Mining Act.
... To a Juror: There were two chambers cut into the bank. There might have been less danger of there had been only one chamber the full width.
... To the Coroner: He had instructed deceased to fill up the chambers as soon as the stringers were in position. He was fully satisfied that by leaving the block between the two chambers the ground was better supported than by taking it out and so forming one large chamber.
... Neil DEMPSY deposed that he was a miner living at the Beaumont and in the employ of the Local Cop-operative Goldmining Co. He was at work in the Co's mine, along with Wm. Thomas Moyle and James CUMMING, on Friday last, 10th instant. He was one of the men who cut the chambers into the bank to allow of the stringers being placed in position. At the time of the accident he was working, along with deceased, in the chamber, Cumming being on the trestles. Witness saw the fall of earth which caught the deceased; it struck him on the breast and crumbled over his head. Witness was only 5ft away from deceased, on the outer side of the chamber, at the time of the accident. It took a couple of minutes to get the deceased's head clear of the earth. When he was got clear deceased was quite unconscious and remained so until he died - almost 25 minutes after the accident. He did not look upon the ground whee the chamber was cut as at all dangerous,
... To Mr HAYES: there was no perceptible evidence of weakness or liability to fall in the ground. Witness looked upon the ground as quite safe.
... To a Juror: In the course of a casual chat a few minutes before the accident happened, deceased made the remark that he did not think there was any danger of an accident happening, as no feeling himself that the ground was unsafe in any way.
... James CUMMING deposed that he did not see the bank of the chamber give way, but almost immediately after DEMPSEY called his attention to the accident which had befallen Moyle, who was then almost buried up. With Dempsey's help, witness got deceased's head clear and then went at once to the telephone office to send a message for medical assistance. He returned in about twenty minutes, when deceased had expired . Witness did not consider the ground dangerous at the spot where deceased met with the accident. He did not think there was any carelessness shown by deceased in carrying out his work,
... To the Foreman: The telegram he sent to Mr Thompson, Chairman of Directors of the Co-operative Company was: "Moyle hurt; send doctor at once."
... Mr Hayes said he was of opinion, after an inspection of the mine and more particularly the spot where the accident happened, that the sever frosts and subsequent sharp thaw which set in was the primary cause of the ground giving way, resulting in Moyle's death. He did not think any blame was attributable to the manager, as all hands apparently were thoroughly satisfied that there was no danger. He would, however, recommend that in future work of this kind appearances of safety should not be trusted to, but a few "shoring" planks and cross stays used which would practically insure safety.
... After the Acting-Coroner had briefly reviewed the evidence.
... The Jury returned a verdict of "Accidental Death" adding that there was no blane attributable to anyone, as all necessary precaution had been taken in carrying on operations at the mine.
... The Foreman took occasion, on behalf of the jurors, to thank Mr Hayes for his attendance at the inquest and the valuable assistance he rendered in the conduct of the proceedings.
NOTE Francis & Jessie and a number of their children are buried at Block 4 Plot 12 & 13 & 14, Anglican Section Lawrence Cemetery, Otago

Frederick ALEXANDER found shot at NORSEWOOD 1908
FREDERICK ALEXANDER (1875-1908)
married Sarah Anne WINDSOR (1883-1932) on 13 May 1908
6 weeks later, 27 June 1908, Frederick was found dead
He was 35 years old (Cemetery Database has aged 55)
Bush Advocate, 29 June 1908
NORSEWOOD SHOOTING FATALITY
... On Saturday afternoon information was received at Dannevirke that a man named Frederick Alexander, a horsebreaker, living at Tepapakuku, had been found dead in a paddock at Mr Fredericksen's, Norsewood. Deceased, shortly before dinner time, left Mr Fredericksen's with the idea of shooting a hare. As he did not return, a search was made, when the deceased was discovered lying dead, with a gunshot wound in the head. The deceased was married about six weeks ago
Bush Advocate, 29 June 1908 ORMONDVILLE, to-day
... An inquest was held this morning at the residence of Gustav Fredericksen by the district coroner, Mr T. L. Buick, and the following jury: O. Ericksen, H. Brieske, Staunton, P. G. Grant, J. D. Grant and Barclay into the death of Frederick Alexander, a horse-breaker of Dannevirke, who was found dead in Fredericksen's paddock on Saturday afternoon, with a severe gunshot wound in the head.
... The evidence of G. Fredericksen, Mrs Alexander, Constable McLeod, and Dr Veitch was taken, which went to show that deceased went out to shoot hares on Saturday morning, and not returning, search was made. Fredericksen found the body lying 30 chains from the house. The injuries to the head was very severe, and death must have been instantaneous. There was nothing to show whether death was due to accident or design. The position of the body and the nature of the wound, was peculiar if death was due to accident, but the jury gave deceased the benefit of the doubt, add returned a verdict of accidental death.
Bush Advocate, 29 June 1908
FUNERAL DELAYED
... Owing to the inquest being held into the death of the late Frederick Alexander not being finished in time, the funeral, which was to have taken place this afternoon, has been postponed until to-morrow and will reach Mangatera at about 1 o'clock.
Manawatu Standard, 30 June 1908
LATER DETAILS
... Later details of the shooting fatality at Norsewood show that the victim, Frederick Alexander, informed Mr Fredericksen, with whom he was staying, that he was going to shoot a hare, and that he would return in time for dinner. He took with him a double-barrel breech-loading gun for the purpose, and at the time of his departure was in the best of spirits, as will be seen from the fact that he gave vent to several jocular expressions.
He, however, did not put in an appearance at dinner, and about 3 o'clock his body was found by Mr Fredericksen, who ascertained that Alexander had met his death by a gunshot wound in the right temple. The police were at once informed, and Dr Veitch sent for, but on arrival the latter could only pronounce life to be extinct.
The cause of the accident is a mystery, but it is said that when out shooting deceased was in the habit of placing the gun between his legs, and it is thought that while in this position on Saturday it accidentally went off. The late Mr Alexander was formerly in the employ of the Dannevirke-Herbertville Coaching Company, but lately followed out the occupation of a breaker-in of horses, and resided at Tepapakuku.
... About six weeks ago he married Miss Windsor, of Dannevirke, and was exceedingly popular among his many acquaintances, one and all of whom will greatly deplore his tragic end, and extend their sympathy to his young widow and relatives in their bereavement.
Frederick is buried Grave 8, Block I at SETTLERS CEMETERY, Dannevirke
* Sarah was a daughter of Patrick Windsor & Thora Mary Olsen. She remarried in 1911 to Lawrence O'Donnell & is buried O'Neills Point

You will find it an invaluable site in your genealogy research
Unbelievably, Murray's Genealogy Place Map Index, geneaMap Database, is not only a cemetery database but a list of all places:
* ART GALLERIES
* CEMETERIES
* CHURCHES
* LIGHTHOUSES
* MARAES
* MEMORIALS
* MUSEUMS
* ORPHANGES
* RAILWAYS
* SCHOOLS
* SHIPWRECKS
* TEMPLES
* UNDERTAKERS
* URUPA
* WAR MEMORIALS
