Looking for the parents and grandparents of John Ballantyne (1784-1846)
My g3-grandfather, John Ballantyne, and his wife, Janet Matilda Turnbull Ballantyne (1786-1870), came from Roxburghshire, Scotland, to Illinois/Texas in 1841, as part of the Mormon migration. We believe that John's parents were Thomas and Janet Inglis Ballantyne, but we have no real information about them, and know nothing of their progenitors.
Looking for the parents of Peter Gunsolley
Peter Gunsolley and wife Abigail Faunce, are my great-great-grandparents. Peter came from Geauga County, Ohio, to Illinois/Iowa as part of the Mormon migration in about 1836. His last name may come from Consaulis, Gonsaulis, Consaulis-Duk, or Gonsaulis-Duk. Peter may have been from the upstate Dutch counties of New York. The family name may have originally been Gonzalez and have been started in the Netherlands by people (Jews?) expelled from inquisition-dominated Spain.
Looking for Lydia Rice Barton
I believe that Lydia Rice Barton may be the granddaughter of Nathan Barton (1734-1795) and Lydia Rice (1744-1814). Lydia Rice is the daughter of John Rice (1704-?) and Anna Sanderson (?-?). Nathan Barton is the son of Joshua Barton (1697-1793) and wife Anne (?). Locations in all cases appear to be Massachusetts.
Jennet Turnbull and her father Andrew Turnbull in Scotland
My G(3)grandmother Jennet (Turnbull) Ballantyne came to the U.S. from Scotland with my G(3)grandfather and her husband, John Ballantyne, in the mid-1800's. Jennet's father, who didn't leave Scotland, was married to Helen Douglas. That is all of the information that I have about them. I'm looking for more.
Looking for Thomas Ballantyne in Scotland in mid-1800's
My G(4)grandfather was Thomas Ballantyne from near Roxburgh, Scotland, and he was married to Janet Inglis. They were each born around 1800. My G(3)grandfather, John, and much of his family left to come to the U.S. as part of the Mormon migration. I haven't been able to find any significant information about what happened to Thomas and the rest of his family.
Ballantyne's associated with the Latter Day Saint (Mormon) Church
My branch of the Ballantyne family came to the U.S. as part of the Mormon movement just before the Civil War. My Great(3)grandfather John Ballantyne came with his family from Roxburgh, Scotland, to become a member of Joseph Smith's new church. After Joseph was killed, my grandfather and at least part of the family went with Lyman Wight to Texas to establish the church there. That effort failed after several years and, upon Lyman Wight's, death some of the Ballantynes returned to the North, settling in Iowa and Missouri. John's son James was my Great(2)grandfather and he settled near Moorhead, Iowa, in Western Iowa. His son, John Oriondamus Ballantyne, settled there also. He was father to my grandfather, Fred N. Ballantyne.
My family Gunsolley connection
My paternal grandmother was Sylvia Hawley, daughter of Isaac Zimri Hawley and Jerusha Gunsolley. Sylvia married Fred N. Ballantyne, my grandfather. I don't have the dates and places yet so I will add those later. Jerry (sp?) Gunsolley was, I believe, Jerusha's brother. He was a professor at Graceland College (now Graceland University) in Lamoni, Iowa, and one of the buildings on campus is named after him.
