The LATE MR. W. H. VENABLES.
— We regret to record the death of an old resident of our distrit
(Mr W. H. Venables who died at his residence, Laura on Saturday evening at the age of 71 years.
The late Mr. Venables came to South Australia over 50 years ago, and spent a considerable period in the North, travelling over large portions of it in the capacity of drover and shepherd: Previous to residing in Laura, and neighbourhood (where he has been residing 19 years) he was farming at Tarcowie.
For about seven years, he resided at Beetaloo. Mr. Venables had been in
failing health for some time past.
At one time he was ranger under the Laura Corporation and sanitary
inspector under the local Board of Health, which positions he relinquished
on account of his health.
He was a nephew of Sir Samuel Davenport.
He leaves a wife, six daughters (Mesdames Watkins, Tarcowie, F. Boehm, D.
Boehm, and C. Boehm, Laura, and P Peterson, Broken Hill, and Miss
Venables, Laura), and eight sons (Messrs. George, John, Albert, Alfred,
William; Henry, Edgar, Sidney, and Walter Venables).
The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, there being a large number of persons present to testify to their respect for the deceased gentleman. The service at the grave was conducted by the Rev. E. H. Kentish. The funeral
arrangements were carried out by Mr. W. Bills.

Chronicle (Adelaide, SA) Saturday 5 November 1904
LAURA.
October 26.— Mr. W. H. Venables, an old resident of this, town, died on Saturday evening at the age of 71. For a number of years he resided at Beetaloo. and afterwards at Laura. He occupied the position of ranger and sanitary inspector in the Laura corporation for some time, but resigned on account of ill-health.
He left a family of six daughters and nine sons,
nearly all of whom reside in the district.

An old and highly respected resident of Laura (Mrs. Venables) died last week aged 68 years. She has left 14 grown-up sons and daughters, besides a number of grandchildren. Mrs. Venables was related by marriage to the late Sir Samuel Davenport.
