Otago Daily Times, 24 Jan 1907 On Tuesday afternoon the brigade was called out to a fire which had broken out in a two-storey brick building in Castle street owned by Mr Strang and occupied by Mr Edward Blee, carpenter. The fire, the cause of which is unknown, originated in one of the bedrooms, and destroyed the window curtains, a bed, and a table, but ?5 will cover the damage (2014 equivalent of $795). The flames were subdued before the brigade arrived. Mr Blee's furniture and effects were insured for ?100 in the Standard office

Mary & her infant son died at sea during the voyage. John next married Margaret ? (1851-1879) who died 7 Jan 1879 aged 27 during childbirth.
