Hugh Allen

Journal by rka63

I am looking for Hugh Allen. He is my brick wall right now. Hugh was born, as best I can tell, in 1678 in Chowan Co., NC and died July 4, 1752, possibly in Chowan Co, but possibly in Mecklenberg Co., NC. His last two children were born in Mecklenberg Co. is why I suspect he could have died there. His wife was Elizabeth Spivey. She was born in Nanasmond Co. VA (it was named for an Indian tribe and is no longer a county in Virginia). I cannot locate any parents for Hugh although I suspect they may possily be one of the Virginia Allen's.

His son John Allen lived in Mecklenberg Co., NC. The Allen's of this particular branch moved from there to Rutherford Co., NC. Many of them stayed there over 150 years. Some moved on to upper Georgia around Habersham Co and some eventually made their way to Louisana and Texas.

I believe John Allen's son John Taylor Allen fought in the Revolutionary War on the Patriot side from Mecklenberg Co., NC. A later descendant Pascal Allen fought in the Civil War on the Confederate side and was in the area of Chattanoga/Chickamauga down to Atlanta. Onsbey Pasacal Allen (Pascal's grandson) fought in World War I and was in the Muse River/ Argonne Forest campaign along with Alvin York who won the Medal of Honor. Onsbey's son Boyd Allen served in World War II in the Pacific. Boyd later went on to play college football at Wake Forest and was a well known high school football coach in North Carolina.
