Hugh and Anne Calkins of England

Journal by sunflowerstar

Like John and Agnes Briggs, Hugh and Anne Calkins are the head of my Calkins family line in the United States.
I am their 13th to 14th great granddaughter I believe. But more on these two and who is included in my Calkins lineage after I fill out the journal for my Briggs line.

I often wondered if my great great great grandmothers name wasn't something like Penelope and ended up mispelled. Poenia is unique. Another suggestion would be the flower Peony. I have never come across another person with that name. Will have to keep this in mind when researching. Poenia's parents were Stephen Calkins and Anna Smith. With Anna no further information is available although I am attempting to do what no one has done.
Stephen Calkins was the great great grandson of the original Hugh and Anne Calkins who immigrated to America, Stephen's parents being Turner Calkins and Phoebe Cadman, who was Turner's second wife. Turner's parents were Stephen Calkins and his cousin Sarah Calkins. Sarah Calkins is the great granddaughter of Hugh Calkins through Hughs son David Calkins. Marrying cousins was done a lot back in those days and it was not unheard of for an uncle and niece to marry.
