OBITUATRY of ARCHIBALD INGRAM
Wanganui Chronicle, 15 October 1919

... The death of Mr Archibald Ingram at Wanganui Hospital removes one of the pioneer settlers of Rangitikei district. Born in Tasmania in 1843, he left with his parents six years later for New Zealand, in 1849, residing at the Hutt till he was thirteen years of age, when, in company with Mr W. Cawood (William Kirby Smith Cawood 1842-1928), of Marton (who was then eleven years of age), he walked to Marton (150km today with roads). He drove bullock drays with goods from Wanganui to Marton, followed his trade as a blacksmith, launched into business at Bulls as a brewer and during the latter part of his life was stock dealer and drover. He was the first volunteer in the Marton district to serve in the Maori War and was a member of the Volunteer Corps for a number of years. He also took a keen interest in friendly societies. He was the oldest member of Court Little John, A.O.F., and took a keen interest in the welfare of the Court in its infancy. His wife predeceased him nine years ago. A family of ten are left to mourn their loss of a father, namely: Messrs
George Ingram, Bulls
