hello Nicole,

Alfred Benjamin WHITE (1870-1896) married Wilhelmina de Place (1872-1940) on 6 Feb 1894 (Valentine's Day)

their sons were:
8 Aug 1894 - Alfred Maurice Leslie White

8 March 1896 - William Henry White

Alfred Benjamin White died 27 July 1896 at his father's residence, the Springs, Geraldine, after a long and painful illness, aged 26. Just 4 months after the birth of son William
- he is buried in Plot 677, Row 421 at Geraldine Cemetery

Who Died July 27th 1896 aged 26 years

Who Died July 23rd 1897 aged 59 years

Wilhelmina next married James JARDEN (1864-1948) on 12 Feb 1906
- James was a Horse Trainer in Christchurch. He had first married Catherine Elizabeth ROGERS in 1885 & had 9 children. Catherine Elizabeth Jarden died 17 December 1904 at Mile Road, North Linwood, Christchurch aged 39. Her children were then aged from 2 to 17. No children found for James and Wilhelmina. She may have helped raise these children

WILHELMINA died 15 October 1940 aged 68
- she is buried Plot 87, Block 2 at Bromley cemetery, Christchurch
JAMES died 11 July 1948 aged 84. He is buried Plot 113SS, Block 10 at Bromley

Thank you so much. Can i ask where you get the information as im wanting to look into things a bit further and also am interested in finding out more about other family members etc.

Such as Wilhelminas parents and heritage, also Wilhelmina and Alfreds first son, Alfred Maurice Leslie White, as he is my great grandfather.

Thanks Again!

yes Nicole,

info comes from old newspapers through Papers Past, the BDM indexes and from 'digging around in graveyards' :)

all these links and lots more help for your search can be found by using
New Zealand Regional Archives
There are ships records, cemetery databases, birth-death-marriages to be found, Jury Lists, Biographies, New Zealand History sites, war records etc, etc, listed in the 16 New Zealand Districts for easier finding. Be sure to click all links and have fun

Thanks Ngaire, Ive had a look on the cemetries database etc and BDM, but i dont know what im doing wrong, as no info comes back. The most info i have come across relating to what im looking for is from you and your journal posts!

How would i find out Wilhelminas parents names and where they came from?

I don't want to spoil your research (I know how much fun it is) but I will tell you the name of her parents to get you started :)

her father was Mauritz de Place (1840-1875) of Germany, or with a name like that, maybe close to the border of France or a descendant of both!! that would be fun research (there are a couple of different spellings for Mauritz, Mouritz, Moritz

her mother was Emma Ives/Eves Newsome and they married in New Zealand in 1867 & had 3-4 children
Mauritz died young, aged 35 and Emma remarried to David GRANGE in 1876 and they had a son

happy hunting

Just to set you straight,
Wilhelmina's mother was actually named Emma Evers (rather unusual) Newsome. I had seen that but not quite believed it. However, it is written in the newspaper report of her death: GRANGE - August 16 1903, at her late residence, 50 Peterborough Street, Emma Evers, beloved wife of David Grange; aged fifty-four years. At rest.

Amazing! thank you so much. Im not very good at this sort of thing at all. Ive peiced together as much of a family tree as I can at the moment, but people are so much more than just names.. Id love to find out what my family was like and what they did etc.
Do you have an email address I could contact you through? Id love to ask you a few more questions if you didnt mind!
