Is this your James GIBSON in the NSW BMD?
6934/1872 GIBSON JAMES WILLIAM Father: JOHN JAMES Mother: MARY Register district: BERRIMA

His parents' marriage?
1778/1870 Groom: GIBSON JOHN Bride: HELLIER MARY Place: BERRIMA

You can go backwards from there if these are correct.

Thankyou Kablewalker.It is possible that John James is James' father.I'm not sure how to confirm this.
