by rbrasser on 2015-11-22 13:18:52

Thank you so much, looking at the limited information I have, the year 1850 is more consistent, so I will start from there, once again thank you.

No children located in South Australia for George and Bridget but they may have had a daughter in Victoria.

If you have any further details for George and Bridget it may assist with further record searches, including the names of any other children you know about.

by rbrasser on 2015-11-22 18:36:18

They had a daughter Amelia, and other children, the details I do not have to hand at the moment. Future generations lived in the St Arnaud and surrounding areas, Victoria

MARRIAGE.

Groom: Maurice Joseph POWER.
Birth place: Given as CORK.

Bride: Amelia Agnes JACKSON.
Birth place: Given as Adelaide.

Year married: 1873.
Place: Victoria.

Ref: Registry of Marriages, Victoria. Reg #2890.

Is this the marriage for your Amelia JACKSON.

I know of the JACKSON line in the St Arnaud area but their parents were recorded as George JACKSON and Bridget MCKEE and MCGEE in the Victorian birth and death records. May mean something to to you.

by rbrasser on 2015-11-22 19:48:02

it is the marriage of my Amelia Jackson, and I do know of Bridget McKee/McGee but this is not correct according to the information that I have. I have Bridget's parents as Robert and Jane and Jane's maiden name as Lavery. I think it is Amelia's siblings that I need to track down to tie in with my grandfather's line of the Jackson family.I will spend some time at our local historical society next weekend. My line of the tree is George Jackson, married Janet Frame, One of their children, James Jackson was my grandfather.

DEATH.

Name: Bridget JACKSON.
Died: 1870 (not recorded) Victoria.
Age: 42 years.
Birth place: Given as Tyro.
Father: Henry MCKEE.
Mother: Amelia unknown.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, Victoria. Rag #6509.

This death may be worth following up.
Parents names do not tally with yours but not knowing where you obtained your information from unable to follow up.
It's possible MCKEE is the correct spelling but will need to be confirmed by other records. MCKEE can sound like MCKAY depending on how it is pronounced.

by rbrasser on 2015-11-22 22:42:00

I have some history previously researched by a cousin and yesterday my mother produced a letter dated October 1987,(only she knows why it has suddenly appeared) the details of which I am trying to link to what we already knew. On George's death certificate it lists Bridget's parents as Robert and Jane McKay but on Bridget's death certificate it lists her parents as Henry and Amelia McKay.
I have managed to make some progess. George and Bridget had other children, one was George Born 1861 at Glendaruel, he was my great grandfather. Another child Edgar Isaac, I have yet to confirm

MARRIAGE.

Groom: George JACKSON.
Birth place: Given as Clunes.

Bride: Janet FRAME.
Birth place: Given as Ballarat.

Year married: 1887.
Place: Victoria.
Ref: Registry of Marriages, Victoria. Reg #3110.

BIRTH.

Name: George JACKSON.
Born: 1861 Clunes, Victoria.
Father: George JACKSON.
Mother: Bridget MCGEE. (Note spelling of maiden name)
Ref: Registry of Births, Victoria. Reg #8016.

DEATH.

Name: George JACKSON.
Died: 1949 St Arnaud, Victoria.
Age: 87 years.
Father: George JACKSON.
Mother: Bridget MCKEE. (Note spelling of maiden name)

George's brother Henry died in St Arnaud in 1951, aged 90 years.
Henry's mother was also recorded as Bridget MCKEE at death, and named as Bridget MCGEE at birth.

George and Janet's marriage certificate for 1887 should give the correct spelling of Bridget's maiden name.

DEATHS

JACKSON. On the 17th October, at the residence of his son-in-law, Maurice J. Power, Malvern, George Jackson, formerly of Glendaruel and Avon Plains, in his 97th year. R.I.P.

DEATH.

Name: George JACKSON.
Died: 1913 Malvern, Victoria.
Age: 96 years.
Father: William JACKSON.
Mother: Hannah unknown.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, Victoria. Reg #13927.

You mentioned that on George's death certificate it named Bridget's parents as Robert and Jane MCKAY and I'm a bit confused here.
The death certificate would have named his wife and children if known by the informant, but I have never known of a death certificate to name the parents of the deceased spouse.

Do you have a copy of George's death certificate?

Several references to Jackson's road at Glendaruel, at the foot of Mount Bolton; and according to the notice below M'Kay's also had land at Glendaruel.

To Tonkin, the death certificat apparently did have the names of wife and children but I am not in possession of that information, only the letter that mentions it. I will obtain a copy of the death certificate. Thanks

by rbrasser on 2015-11-23 21:56:26

to janilye, thank you, Glendaruel is not far from St Arnaud, where quite a few of the Jackson's settled, I will follow up the information on the land, when I get the chance, thanks again

Unable to locate a birth for this Elizabeth to date.
Born circa 1856 if age at death is correct.

George's death certificate may assist with the names of other children, including the marriage place for George and Bridget.

Thank you, in addition to the 5 you have listed above was also, Amelia, born in SA. I have certainly got my work cut out putting all this together. One of the girls and I'm only guessing it may have been Elizabeth, was, at some stage married to the publican or joint publican of the Federal Hotel, Swan Hill, NSW. Her husband was killed at the Swan Hill bridge. She then returned to St Arnaud with her son. She died in St Arnaud.

by rbrasser on 2015-11-24 03:37:02

If Elizabeth was born around 1856, she may have been born in SA, as was Amelia in 1852.

Re: Amelia Agnes JACKSON married to Maurice Joseph POWER 1873.

This appears to be Amelia's death but her mother is named as Bridget SULLIVAN. Informant may have confused Bridget's maiden name.

Name: Amelia Agnes POWER.
Died: 1936 South Yarra, Victoria.
Age: 84 years.
Father: George JACKSON.
Mother: Bridget SULLIVAN.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, Victoria. Reg #1809.

Is this the death you have for Amelia?

Amelia gave her birth place as Adelaide and would have been born circa 1852, but her birth does not come up in the South Australian records.

When you obtain George's death certificate it may give us a few more details to follow up. At the moment a few details don't tally.

by rbrasser on 2015-11-24 03:57:30

I don't actually have a death for Amelia and there is definitely some conflicting information, which hopefully will be sorted when I get the certificates. Somewhere I have it in my mind that Amelia died at around age 42? Looking at some photos on a web site last night of Jackson's I had never heard of until a couple of days ago, the resemblance to some of my Jackson's is quite amazing. Thank you once again.

by tonkin on 2015-11-24 04:46:20

This appears to be the death for Maurice Joseph POWER
married to Amelia Agnes JACKSON in 1873.

Name: Maurice Joseph POWER.
Died: 1924 Brighton Victoria.
Age: 79 years.
Father: Nicholas POWER.
Mother: Mary SULLIVAN.

Note.
The maiden name given for Amelia and Maurice's mother at time of death is given as SULLIVAN. Easy to see the informant made an error when naming the maiden name for Bridget's mother. Informants were often stressed when supplying information and errors are understandable.
