Looking for The Family of James Crombie and Agnes (Nancy) Penman from Fife, Scotland Settled in Wyndham NZ circa Late 1871 early 1872.

Query by glenseamas

My Grt Grt Grandparents were James Crombie and his wife Agnes (Nancy) Penman.
James was a coal miner and eventually in partnership with a man named Anderson was the owner of two coalmines the Capledrae mine and the Balgregie mine both in Fifeshire. James was killed in the Capledrae mine by a rockfall in 1862 when only 45years of age.

Nancy (sic) was 42years and their youngest child was just a year old while their eldest was 20yrs.
Their family were William, John, James, Mary, Alexander,Isabella, Nancy,Robert, Elizabeth.

Eventually in late 1871 Nancy and her family left Scotland and arrived in New Zealand.
Nancy and some of the family settled in Wyndham in the South Island, eventually after marrying they spread through out NZ.
William was a Stationmaster and by all accounts a popular man. John and his wife were in Tapanui and then Blenheim and Nancy married a man surname Grant and they were in Temuka and then Hastings. Robert was in Wyndham and then went to Hastings and married there, he was a boarding house keeper.
Mary married a man named Alexander Hill she had a daughter Jemima who was born in Scotland before this marriage, she became Jemima Fyfe and lived in Huntly NZ.Isabella married Innes and Elizabeth married Bell.

This is just a brief outline of some of the family story.

I would love to hear from others of this Crombie family so we can complete the family tree and story.

It is wonderful to have made this otherwise unknown contact and we would love to meet with other descendants of our Grt Grt Grandparents James and Agnes (Nancy) Crombie.

Hello, my name is Pip Lee and my great grandmother was Isabella, the oldest daughter of William & Isabella Crombie. So Nancy Penman was my great great great grandmother. It is great to find your stories here, as it builds on the research I have been doing. The Lee family have not had much contact or connection with the Crombies, because Isabella and her husband Herbert Lee parted ways about 1899/1900, with Isabella moving to Auckland and Herbert Lee returning to England with 2 of his children. My grandfather Croydon remained in Oamaru and was brought up by his uncle EP Lee. I think there is quite a lot of sadness behind those stories, and I would be keen to find out more about my Great grandmother Isabella.
I have recently discovered that William Crombie came to NZ on a cargo ship (the Corlic) in July 1876, ahead of his wife and 6 children who didn't follow him until 1880. They lived first in Dunedin, then Oamaru, back to Dunedin again before moving to Auckland.
So it appears that William may have travelled out to NZ later than his mother & siblings.
I would be happy to chat further
