Looking for William Johnson, Joseph & Margaret Scallion 1798 Co. Wexford

Query by aryane

Am reviving my Co of Wexford research for webisode #8 of Part One of my series "By Her Roots" for Rootstelevison.com and my youtube channel which will lead me to Part Two in Ireland.

William Johnson b 1760 with son Lawrence b 1792 and Andrew Scallion b 1790 all from County of Wexford show up in Nova Scotia buying land in 1802 just after the 1798 rebellion. Were they rebels or loyalists and what all were they escaping. Have not found any records of anyone else arriving with them just William and the two boys but Andrew's parents were listed on his marriage record as Joseph Scallion and Margaret Doyle.

My researcher in Dublin found only one marriage record for a Joseph Scallion and Margaret Doyle dated 1783 at the Cross of Ballysheen in parish of Carne Co of Wexford. their 5 children were born and/or baptized there or Butlerstown parish of St Ibers. One was born in 1790 but his name was William. If he came alone with William Johnson and his son Lawrence maybe he changed his name to his middle name to lessen confusion? Am researching all wexford church ruins in these areas.

I'm a direct ancestor of Andrew Scallion, whose family settled in Herring Cove, outside Halifax, Nova Scotia. A researcher traced our family back to Andrew, who first stopped in Bay Bulls, Newfoundland with his brother before coming to Nova Scotia. His brother went to the US, and we still have distant relatives there today.

Well hello Cous! Nice to meet you thanks for responding! This is the first I heard of a brother of Andrew do you know his name and any info on the parents of wexford roots. I have long since finished my series and if you saw the last one webisode #9 you will see that i mentioned Bay Bulls but have not found any records there of the irish who passed through. I have though found someone who has trees that extend into the Scallions in Co of Wexford around the area I found a Margaret and Joseph. Is there someone in the states from the brother who might have some info that i can contact. I am from Andrew Scallion - Catherine (Kate) Scallion (married John Johnson of Bear Cove) Adeline Johnson (married Richard Martin of Ketch Harbour) Vera Martin - Venita Hayward (Toronto) - Doreen Hayes - and then me

Nice to meet you, too! I have my family tree from Andrew down to my father, but I'm not sure if it includes Andrew's brother's name. I'll take a look. We have relatives in New Jersey who my aunt and cousin got to know and invited to a family party a few years ago. I'll ask what their names are. Do you live in Halifax?

No i live up in cottage country about 2 hours north of toronto. thanks for checking that would be the most important clue i could get to search those scallion groupings i found in wexford. Becaue although i found a joseph and margaret scallion...their son born same year as andrew was named WILLIAM...soooo disappointing. but then since andrew scallion and william johnson were so close, although andrew was close in age to son Lawrence Johnson, i was hoping maybe andrew's name was really william andrew scallion or something and then chose to go by andrew? you can email me directly at alannahryane@yahoo.ca and then i can post here if we find anything?? Oh also we did find a couple of loose scallions at that time...i would have to look in my notes as well ..we could not connect them at the time but maybe you and i??
