Frederick William Rudkin was my grandfather. His wife was Ruth (nee Havill) who I think died in 1991. As far as I know they had seven children; Gerard, Ernest, Nola, Leone (my mother), twins Nancy and Margaret and Amy. At this time, as far as I am aware, the surviving children are Ernest, Nola and Amy. Ruth Nathan

?A WOUNDED HERO. The last report received of the condition of Sergeant Alfred Rudkin who was badly wounded at the front stated that, whilst not Removed from the "dangerously" ill list, he was making slow recovery. Besides being wounded in both thighs and arms Sergeant Rudkin was badly wounded in the face.?[2]

Classified as medically unfit for war due to wounds 3 June 1919
Medical notes state:
Gunshot wound to elbow and arthritis at elbow joint
31 March 1918 wounded by bomb
Large gunshot wound left thigh and left arm; multiple wounds right arm, elbow and forearm, face lacerated; wound at left angle of mouth. Some of his wounds went on to become infected and so were excised, cleaned and sutured. X-rays showed many foreign bodies in affected parts. Later had ?plastic operation? to close face wounds. His right elbow joint becoming immobile.
