thank you very much to JRW45 for this message on 11-5-2011:

... I descend from the Ede family and thought I may be able to fill in a few gaps with Edward and Clara's family.

Some of the latter children I have no data on them.

Margaret Mary born 18 May 1880 and appears to have died 14 Feb 1901 at Sunnyside Asylum. I've still to go to National Archives to view her file to verify this.

Lillian Alice b.15 July 1881 married Ernest Jones and had 10 children.

Ann Elizabeth b.23 Sept 1882 d.7 March 1884

Thomas Edward b. either 22 or 27 Dec 1883 d.1 Apr 1951

Arthur Stephen you have data for this line

Benjamin (John) I think the John was added later in life and his own idea. b. 1 May 1887 m. Bertha Harris. They were a colourful pair who were sometimes in the Court news.

Henry had a twin who was stillborn. 12.April 1889

Alfred James b. 4 April 1890 m. Ada Louise 28 Feb 1920, div. 1941 remarried Janet Irene ? (surname unknown)

Walter Henry b. 28 Aug 1893 m Maud Eva McInnes 9 May 1916 they had 4 children I know about.

Eva Ellen Elizabeth b. 31 Oct 1895

Ruby Clara Amelia b 25 Sept 1897 m. Lawrence Maloney 1917. I have her death date as 2 July 1986 but cannot verify it.

Annie Matilda b.7 Nov 1899 m.1924 to Frank Helmsley and had 5 children I know about

John Ernest b. 1901 m.1930 Mary McGregor and had 3 children I know about

Amy Florence Nightingale b. 1904 I've been told she was also in a mental institution in the Nelson area.

Edward William b.1906

When birth certificates were cheap many years ago I ordered some and a few of them were for Edward's family. It was interesting to see the number of different places given as Clara's birthplace - there were at least 4.

I do have information prior to this going back to 1757 on the Alsop line (Blackbourne, Stilwell, Still, Wright, Ridgebridger, Brewer) and much more on Lilian Alice Ede who married Ernest Jones, my grandparents.

If you have any updates to what I have listed in the previous post please let me know. I understood there were 18 children, I am not sure where Jack fits in however. I have lots of historical stuff on Benjamin Ede from Ashburton where he was a brickmaker (made the bricks for Mt Peel Forest and the Lyttelton rail tunnel)and a farming pioneer. I have photos of him and a number of earlier family members.

I did a lot of work on my family tree in 2004 and have finally got back to it, although it is a retirement project really, end of the year. cheers Bronwen Summers

Hi Bronwen

I am particularly interested in any information you may have on Benjamen Ede and Bertha Harris. In your first post you say there were 14 children, however I think there may be confusion on which Benjamen Ede that is. Bertha Harris to my knowledge had no children to Benjamen, but an illegitimate child to a chap Asher.

Any information on Benjamen and Bertha would be gratefully received, Bertha would have been my great aunt if I work it out right.

Thanks
Julie

Sorry Julie, I am just getting back to my family tree after all this time - I have lots of information going back much further email me at bronwensummers@gmail.com. I don't know anything about Bertha and Benjamen, it was information I got from Ngaire who is the first post here. Lilian was my grandmother who had 10 children herself.

cheers Bronwen

Does Ernest Alfred Ede (1861 to 1941) fit into the family tree somewhere? Said to be a son of Alfred James Eade (1830-1923), an immigrant from Surrey. Married my great aunt Susannah Burrell.

"Mr. Ernest Alfred Ede, Manager of the Koru Sawmilling Company, was born in 1859 [contradiction] in Surrey, England, where he was educated. After about five years' experience in a bank he came to New Zealand, and landed in Dunedin in 1883. Mr. Ede gained a general experience in the colony till 1896, when he became manager of Mr. Greenaway's mill at Dannevirke. He afterwards removed to New Plymouth, and established the Koru mill in 1904. Mr. Ede married a daughter of Mr. J. C. Burrell, of Dannevirke, in 1886, and has two sons and two daughters."
