Eliza Scandlyn who married William Rogers lived for many years farming at Corbett Road, Bell Block. They had six children. Can provide details if required. They are buried together at the Mangati Road cemetry at Bell Block. The headstone has been remounted and is one of the few headstones that are still there. The original iron work that was around their plot is no longer there.Their three sons were among the first land owners up Mountain Road at Stratford and there are family photographs of them breaking in the bush.
William Rogers was decorated with the NZ Medal for service in the Land Wars in the 1960's and there is a photograph of William Rogers wearing the medal with Eliza standing at his side. Eliza was evacuated to Nelson with three children and notes at the Puke Ariki Museum show that there were four children after the war. A Richard Scandlyn is also shown as being with the evacuees. Given the information on his wife's passing and his age I have made the assumption that this was her father.
Really enjoyed placing a family about Eliza.
