Auckland, September, 1869
GENTLEMEN:-
I accept the invitation with which you have honoured me "to alow myself to be put in nomination for the office of Superintendent of this Province;" and I beg leave respectfuly to thank you for your promise of active support.
As the question of "Provincialism" will probably be put in issue on the hustings, I take this occasion to assure you that, should the choice of the electors fall on me, I will go into office, not to undermine or damage Provincial Institutions, but to reform provincial administration, and, with the concurrence of the representatives of the people in Councel by making an equitable distribution of the public money throughout the several districts to encourgae the growth, and to aid in the etablishment, of a system to true local self government.
I am, Gentlemen, You most obedient servant, DANIEL POLLEN,

Daniel Pollen
