Mathias "Matthew" Fender from Leipsiz, Saxony, Germany

Eliza Jane Fender was my Grandmother, her father was James Henry
"Bud" Fender, his father was John David Fender, his father was David
Fender (named for his Uncle David), his father was Mathias "Matthew"
Fender, Jr., whose father was Mathias "Matthew" Fender (Pfender) and that is where my trail ends.

If anyone has anything any further back I would be grateful. If anyone needs any information on these I have listed I will be glad to share. The family originally settled in Big Saltcatcher, Colleton County, SC and have intermarried with the Rentz and Hires families who came from Germany around the same time.

William Varnell Nix 1835-19111 was my GGGgrandfather

My mother is Alma Estelle Nix, her father was Eli Lester Nix, his father was George Washington Nix and his father William Varnell Nix. This is as far as I have been able to go.

I know that he was a Confederate soldier, since I attended the Dedication of his Confederate Marker and installation of his Iron Cross. The family story is that he had 2 brothers, they all served in the Confederate Army. They were separated during the war, one went to Alabama, one to Texas and William stayed in Georgia. I have seen some of the research on both the AL & TX branches on the Nix family but cannot connect any of them to William Varnell. There are many Williams in every Nix line and I do not know any names for the brothers. It would be great to find out who his brothers were and who their parents were.

Has anyone come across this story in their research? Would anyone like to have any information on William, Geeorge or Eli?
