Two or three brothers came over from St Brewards Cornwall at separate times and settled in Opotiki in New Zealand. William Rogers is difficult to trace. The story goes that he was a farmer in Opotiki in the 1870's and also a postal delivery man. He fell off his horse in 1879 and died in 1880. But there are no records of him in Opotiki other than two historical newspaper items. Charles Bawden Rogers, his younger brother, arrived in 1875, rumour goes he eloped with a young McKenzie lass from Otago to Opotiki where he married her - Margaret (Jane) McKenze). Jane died shortly after giving birth to Dorothy in Opotiki. There was also meant to be a third brother who settled in the Opotiki area - however I have so far been unable to find any trace of him!
